Topic: A question for Nat : Debris from ground objects?

Nat, you're the ground object God in this world...Want to ask whether we can'thave debris falling off vehicles and ships when strafing them? And the same with ships (bigger, but only like cargo, troop) exploding after taking a series of gun hits? - probably smt like adding the same debris effect as for the aircraft hit to ships/vehicles? (this was part of the discussion about hit visualisation) IP: Logged |

Hey Igor, Well, we do have the same effects as aircraft in that evey hit makes little bits come off, only when you're chasing an aircraft you can see them clearly, but you don't from ground objects. It would be possible to have part blown off ships etc, it would mean adding a few properties and some intertia, but there's no reason it couldn't be done. The Scharnhorst is about the best that I've done for showing damage effects but I haven't set anything so that it gets blown into the air which I think is more what you're looking for, I'll look into that when we're done with Midway and Singapore, it might hurt Frame Rate even more though but I don't see that as a reason not to try it out  The new Panzer tank has these kinds of effect though, bit get blown off that as it takes damage, looks pretty cool lol ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

What he is talking about is having a barrel or lifeboat fly up when it explodes. I was trying to do that with the cargo ship hatches, but no luck...IP: Logged |

I know that there is a folder "debries" in the media directory. Inside is a debries.sm, with about 20 objetcs...might be it is not possible, but maybe we could use such an debries folder for each individual plane/vehicle ?LK IP: Logged |

Here's what I basically meant: To see the damage to a ship done by the plane gunfire. (so definitely not to the monstrous Scharnhorst). Nat, shooting pieces off ships would be GREAT, but couldn't the damage be shown better than it is now using the combined EFFECTS THAT ALREADY COME WITH THE GAME? - like there would be SEVERAL (smaller) explosions and smoke streams after a series of hits and then the BIG explosion would follow? (pity the small debris aren't seen... again can't avoid comparing it with those that come up flying in CFS...)

on that last point Igor.. thats doable.. the simplest way would be to place very small objects over the ship that smoke and then burn after taking so much damage then explode.. hopefully along the way damaging larger sections and setting fires on them. This is a good idea to try out, so I'll see about doing that when I build the next ship.. I'm effectivly still learning Ops and Max, so as you minght notice the ships have got bettre and better since the Akizuki, with the Scharnhorst being the best so far for showing damage especially, so, next time when I build a USN ship I'll try to add these ideas to it  Infact, if I ask and get a little help I could add your last idea of some smaller explosions, and possibly add parts being blown off into the air. The next ship project is likely to be after Singapore, possibly sooner if I need a break from it though, once Diego has done his texture and sent me a basic copy of it so that I can mold the coast line to it I'll have my head so far up my ass trying to build the coasline I wont know what day it is.. lol IP: Logged |
