all those planes are still beta. The Dauntless is still alpha. they was released so you have something to play with. Though the project leaders have not been able to finish up the work. Someone may pick them up.

The Morane is really still alpha and still needs:

Cockpit photos/drawings to complete the cockpit

Damage LOD removal/update

Low detail LODS

Improved FM

Improved DM

Yup... unfinished...

IMO these betas (and other betas out there) need to be completed before any other projects are started. Otherwise we are just going to have butt-loads of betas and a few complete planes.

Well, I am tweaking the FM and DM as I go on the B-29, but no one will be happy with its performance, so I am aiming to please myself. Oddly, there isn't a lot of shots of battle damage (aside from one that was damaged by a bomb loading accident). The DM won't be complete until we can simulate the loss of hydrolics(flaps, gear, props, etc) and power (turrets, instruments, radar, radio, etc). I think the props on the B-29 are the Hydromatic variarion.

I made another discovery by reading through a 1940 Army prop TM - plane engines neet to be 'warmed up' at 800 rpm a bit before being throttled. Also, some props could be adjusted for rpm remotely by the pilot (reduced rpm to keep the engine from over-reving in dives, and increasing for climbs). The response that I heard on this is that it is 'automatically' done for you.

I also don't plan on 'glassing' the cockpit since you really can't tell that there is glass unless you add reflections to it, or are outside. At least a forward or side attacking fighter will be able to shoot into the cockpit and kill the pilots and bombadeir (who will be a 'child' of a nose 'observer').

Are any of the planes out of beta? Not really, since they are continually being changed and tweaked, even the shipped ones.

We will always have a ton more alpha planes then finished ones... the finish work is the hardest most time consuming part, and also the least glamorous

Here is the breakdown of the work on my planes:

2% finding/creating the plan and specs
2% creating the aircraft skin
2% creating the new aircraft sm file
5% modeling the aircraft
2% aligning DOFs
15% texturing the aircraft
20% creating the cockpit
2% damage modeling
50% flight modeling

So for every finished plane I could make, I could turn out 20 simple textured models. Still, it is fun to create new planes and it is great for learning. Who wants to finish a plane that has so many bugs because you were learning? This was the case with my old SE5a and with Nuum's Dh2. It is better and faster to start over.

Once you learn what is going on, you can bang things out much better. But I am using 3dsmax now, it is just like starting over from scratch.

Is there anyone else out there that wants to use max and needs tutorials? I am thinking about documenting my EIII work just like my SE5a work, mostly because it keeps me focused better and you have something to look forward to as a goal even if you failed on your attempt to do somoething. I thnk everyone who uses max is way ahead of me anyway though... oh well, so many the more people to ask questions of
