I checked back the .sm files, seems to be necessary to trim the switchin values, if this does not help the overcome the FPS thing, we can drop this piece of work into the dust pin ! More "news" in 2-3 days.LK

It can't be any wosre than a B-17 or a Lanc. I usually pull 63-64 FPS while viewing forward in my conversion Lanc->B29 bird, and that view is just the control panel and a few edges. If I roll out and look back on it, I am running at 34-36 FPS.A flight of 4 normal B-17s drag things down to 16 fps while looking into the formation. The Pe-2 runs at around 26 FPS with the reflecive canopy, but that is with 7 Pe-2's, 8 AAA halftraks, 8 King Tigers, and 3 109K's. Far better than a B-17, IMHO. The regular Lanc is only 2-3 FPS faster than a B-17 partially due to 6 less gun positions (2 x cheek, 2 x waist, 1 x ball, 1 x dorsal) per plane. What FPS issue is there again? IP: Logged |

No!!!! We will NOT "drop this piece or work into the dust pin"! Its a WONDERFULL piece of work and Ive ben waiting sooo long and Im not dissapointed the least bit with it. (Great job Laika!) It seems to me that the Pe-2 is only a FPS hogger on certain systems. Its not on mine and other people. Now you could release a less detailed version of the Pe-2 for on-line play only, or for those of you out there with low-end systems. Then have a detailed version for off-line play only or for those of us with high end systems. Good idea?[This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 08-10-2000).] IP: Logged |

I have had no such FPS issues. I get better frame rates with the Pe-2 than I do with the Corsair, and with out any doubt better than any of the large bombers. I'd say it's probably comparable to the Ju88, but thats a guess and it's not based on any hard data I've collected.I have been playing with it alot the past several days, and I am having a blast! Love the damage modelling! It's one sweet plane! Great work Laika! PR IP: Logged |

OK... I may be WAY off base with this thought ...BUT I don't think FS checks the "model" for online compatability ... Just the Fm structure, airfoil and loadout... (I may very well be wrong here)... If this is the case so long as one doesn't change the structure of the FM ... it might be possible to have a FR-friendly and a fullblown Pe-2 flying together online ... OK, someone blow my idea out'a the water! IP: Logged |

SPanky here.. Actually Zur. I thought SDOE checked the SM? and since that is both the FM and model you couldn't just change the FM without the SM changing I don't know what it checkes in the SM. and I don't want to know, Since that would open up possiblitys of cheating. ;0

As long as I know SDOE checks file-dates, i.e. I was not able to play with a slightly changed (no FM and DM changes only model switchins) Pe-2 online. LK IP: Logged |

Hehe - but how does it handle File references ? I.e We got no mismatches with modified (different) PePanel .sm files, but with modified Pilot, Navigator and RadioOperator files (each is just a "normal" pilot.sm with other lods). Or did I mix something up ? Dunno !LK
