Hi, all!Up until now I've been using a 'regular' joystick using either the keyboard or the POV hat to control the rudder. However, I'm at the point where this is no longer satisfactory and I was looking into the prospect of purchasing a 3D joystick, i.e. a joystick where you can twist the handle to control the rudder. Has anyone used such a system and is it natural, intuitive, etc.? To me, trying to picture it in my head, it seems somewhat wonky. Getting real rudder pedals at this point is not really practical as I move around a bit. Thanks in advance for the input! Flash IP: Logged |

I had been using a set of home brewed peddals for some time when I first time tried a 3D stick in a shop (M$ Sidewinder?). I found it quite easy to use it for rudder control. In comparison to the peddals it felt a bit less precise. Otherwise it was very comfortable to use. I wish I purchased this kind of hardware then as I chopped my peddals to pieces when moving and never got around to make myself another set. Flying has never been the same ever since ;(.Frustrated ------------------ 9./JG3_Poniat IP: Logged |

The twist action rudder works adequately although, as Poniat says it is a little imprecise for fin control. I think I read that the Commanche attack / recon helicopter uses a twist action in place of pedals.------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

FG, I've been using a Logitech Wingman Extreme 3D Digital joystick for months now and couldn't be happier with it. The twist grip rudder takes some getting used to-but compared to using the keyboard or the POV-its great. And the big thing of course is the cost comparison between buying a setup with rudder pedals and simply shelling out the $39 US for this stick. I really like it myself and have had zero problems with it so far. It can be used on your standard gameport or with USB connection. AQIP: Logged |

I personally like MS joysticks. My first to have rudder control is the Sidewinder 3D Pro. It has 8 buttons, a rudder and throttle and a 8-way hat switch.(I still use it some today) Then I wanted force feedback so I got the MS Force Feedback which I like even tho its a little bulky. You can program the buttons, double the functionality of the 8 buttons, its got a 8-way hat switch and throttle and the rudder too.IP: Logged |
