First, I would like to express my true appreciation to the war department and to all the dedicated pilots taking part each week.
It has been truely fun for me with little spurts of aggravation.
I know many others have frustrations with the internet connections, some planes don't handle well on the ground, damage bug, etc.
The "quick take a break/suggestion" I have can be done by anyone as a fun and easy going way to have a simulated war. I have made up the missions already. These missions can be varied by one-hundred ways to suit your wishes.
Split a theater's airfields in half via a north/south line or an east/west line.
Up to the limit of squadrons allowed in a mission(not sure what the limit is, MH do you know?), place 1 to 2 planes per field with full bombing and rocket loadouts(ie heavy packages). For example, 8 p51's in the nothern fields and 8 fw190's in the southern fields.
Assign 2 airfields as the targets with 20% destruction factors for each side. It could be up to 4 airfields really. One field could be placed closer to the enemy line and the other one farther away. Each target field should have ack defense as well. With a 20% damage factor, all it takes to destroy a field usually is to bomb the 3 big hangars and 1 or 2 of the smaller hangers.
Turn on regen and also turn on/off any other options like hud, padlock, etc it is up to the host.
Turning regen on is reminiscent of Air Warrior except that in sdoe, once the pilot dies that is it for the current mission. This means you just can't crash your plane into the enemy airfield and then get a new plane. Care will have to be taken at least a little bit by each pilot to insure they survive. You could even make a rule that you cannot eject until you have landed at your airbase or you have at least ditched in friendly territory, etc.
The first side to destroy the opposing 2 airfields is the winner of the mission. Best of 5 missions wins the war.
Each side will have to decide whether to be attacking or defending or both.
Yes some pilots won't fly as carefully as they do in the current sdoe war I with regen on, but this setup or variations of this, allows anyone to conduct a war anytime with minimal planing/organizing/logistics and minimized frustrations for the participants and maximized fun IMHO.
If you crash on take off, you just restart, your are not locked out of the rest of the mission(my biggest frustration
). If you get the ctd effect, hopefully you can get back in on the next mission. If you don't want your heavy package, just don't arm the bombs and drop them before or after takeoff.
I am hopefull since most of us act like adults, friendly agreements can be reached if all pilots don't show a particular airfield as being destroyed. Over time the bomb bug should affect each side evenly.
Any thoughts or questions? Email me if you would like the missions. They are easy to make since no waypoints are used and are a good place to start making modifications if you wish.
