Hello all

I am new to SDOE and I need all you Vets to help me out

OK I just about to installed the game off the CD now what files do I NEED?
I am not going to play online too much so I would really like all the beta planes etc... to make the game more varied.

I think I need the PlanePack?? What version? does it have ALL the beta planes in it?
What is the url for it?

Game Patches? Un-officail ones? is there ones like ibeta for Falcon 4.0? ones that improve the graphics better gamesplay etc.. done by the community?

What new terrain is avialable? where can I download it? is it any good?
I looking for terrain that has lots of cliffs bit like the great terrain in EF2000 by DiD.

What are the best Skins? I know this is subjective but what ones do you guys like for the Spit, etc...

Is there a big list of all the beta planes grounded objects etc...
Just want to add all I can to the sim

What are the BEST missions? I know there are a lot of missions about there. I not interested in the MP ones as much a the 'different' Single player ones.

The harrier! very interested in that. What is the latest version? when is the next update? is there good skins for it yet?

ok enough of the 101 questions but I do think these are questions that all newbies want to know sop maybe someone could make a FAQ??

Also does the game work under Windows2000? any tips on getting better performace etc....

Thanks a lot big help and I can't wait to see this baby with all the new stuff

http://www.fightersquadron.com/standard.html

Thats the address for the online standard. It the plane pack contains all the aircraft that were considered realistic enough to be usable online. The contest pack contains some additions that came about in the design contest, like the F4U and the P80b.

For more recent beta planes check out the downloads section or http://www.fshangar.com

Unofficial (Beta) game patches are available at http://www.dragonseye.com/FSBeta/

I dont know of a list of everything. Theres just too much being developed all the time to keep it updated.

Talk of the next plane pack is underway, guess it will be another month or two before it makes it out. The next beta patch should be released after Parsoft finishes their RC Simulator.

It works under 2000 but you need one of the patches from the windows update (i think it was from february).

To tweak performance download Spyder's SDOE Control. Dont have the link to that one right off hand, sorry.

Welcome to the fun. Look forward to seeing you online.

I'm not smart enough to answer all of these TC, but I'll start, or try at least.

"I am new to SDOE and I need all you Vets to help me out"

We're all broke, sorry. Oh! You mean with SDOE. Rgr.

"OK I just about to installed the game off the CD now what files do I NEED?"

A whole bunch. The easiest way is to download Spyder's utility "SDOE HotList v1.3"

You simply download and install it, and then it will help you get to every single file you need, without ever having to leave the comfort of the wonderful utility. Beats hell out of running all over the place with a bunch of web addresses. Here's the address for "SDOE HotList v1.3":
http://www.simfiles.com/scripts/singlefile.php3?fileid=141

"I am not going to play online too much so I would really like all the beta planes etc... to make the game more varied."

O-o-o-h, never say never! You'll find the beta planes all over the place. Folks smarter than me will tell you how to run all the beta stuff, but be able to have a "clean" way to play online if you want every now and then too.

"I think I need the PlanePack?? What version? does it have ALL the beta planes in it?
What is the url for it?"

Spyder's utility above will get you everything you need, including the current Plane Pack and patches, etc.

"Game Patches? Un-officail ones? is there ones like ibeta for Falcon 4.0? ones that improve the graphics better gamesplay etc.. done by the community?"

Spyder's utility. Basically the plane graphics are wonderful, and you'll find cockpit enhancements too.

"What new terrain is avialable? where can I download it? is it any good?
I looking for terrain that has lots of cliffs bit like the great terrain in EF2000 by DiD."

I'm sure the Terrain Gods will jump all over this. There's lots of cool stuff and they'll tell you where it is.

"What are the best Skins? I know this is subjective but what ones do you guys like for the Spit, etc..."

Yes, it is subjective. Personally, I like "Big Beautiful Doll" for the P-51, and "No Guts, No Glory" for the P-47. I like the Blue checkerboard nosed P-38 too. Spyder also has a bitchin' utility which makes it really easy to change skins too.

"Is there a big list of all the beta planes grounded objects etc...
Just want to add all I can to the sim"

That 3D web page address place where you'll get Spyder's utility has a real big list of stuff. I'm sure people will also suggest a lot of places. Don't worry...you'll be busy for a while!

W"hat are the BEST missions? I know there are a lot of missions about there. I not interested in the MP ones as much a the 'different' Single player ones."

Almost more subjective than the skin question. There's a ton of mission-makers, and I'm sure they'll jump on this too.

"The harrier! very interested in that. What is the latest version? when is the next update? is there good skins for it yet?"

I think this info is in "General" section of Forum at this time.

"ok enough of the 101 questions but I do think these are questions that all newbies want to know sop maybe someone could make a FAQ??"

Interesting can of worms there TC. There have been several attempts at this.

"Also does the game work under Windows2000? any tips on getting better performace etc...."

Dunno.

"Thanks a lot big help and I can't wait to see this baby with all the new stuff"

Welcome aboard. Okay people-smarter-than-me, I got him started, fire away.

Ohhh I forgot about installing under 2000.
If you can install it after that patch let me know. It complains because it thinks 2000 is NT4, but there are two workarounds. Someone once mentioned a program that forces it to install (may want to run a search for it in this forum). Also, you can copy the necessary files straight from the cd - no dll's need to be installed in the windows directory.

Ugh Im not the best to ask on this. Mighty probably knows better than I.

I think I installed SDOE while I was running under 98. It would crash under 2000 until I put the MS patch on.

Tailslide once said thres a program on the win2k cd to make it think its 98 so some programs will install.

Well-- I am one of the mission makers mentionned by MK10...but there are many others and we are all pretty good at it...most current skins, sounds, and missions can be found either at FSHangar, Werner's new site Abbeville Field at af.3dgw.com and at sim files: http://www.3dgw.com/simfiles/ . That should get you started...

After copying from the CD you need to turn off read-only for the SDEMONS.INI file. Then, edit the INI with Notepad and make sure the Media and CDMedia entries point to the directory where you copied the game. I think everything else should fall out naturally after that.

as you requested info about addons etc. I think you should visit my site, you'll finds lots of stuff I've made there, if you are going to install PP5.3b then don't bother with the aircraft listed as they are in the pack, but the terrains (snowy dover and Midway) and all the ground units are only to be found on my site, plus some different skins for aircraft.

I was wondering is there a gewrman divebomber plan that I can fly? or has no one made that plan yet???

Also Nat, I downloaded all your nice extra ground units (very coool) but is there a god map that is flooting around that uses all the new stuff? I know on your web site it says you did not do any maps but I was wondering if anyone had? I don't really fancy making a new map yet just want to see all the great stuff in there

Thanks

Top_Cat, do you have the Midway Terrian Nat made? And the Corsair pack and the A6m5 Zero, and ALL the ships? If so I have a mission where it uses ALL the ships (except the German ones) and you just fly around and sight see. If you have all these things let me know and I'll send it to ya.
