They should be in the contest pack. http://www.simfiles.com is where you can get it.

I'm going to release a P-400 in a few weeks so that will be another plane for you to fly for mother russia.

I don't think a sturmovik is in the works. but i could be wrong.

Oh, I was thinking you were doing a P-40, the p-400 variant was just a P-40 with a Zero on its tail.

As I understand it the P-400s were the batch of P-39s delivered to the British for evaluation. These aircraft had the 37mm centre-line cannon replaced by a British 20mm Hispanio cannon. The P-39 with it's poor performance at altitude proved unsuitable for operations over Western Europe and was rejected by the British. These returned aircraft entered service in the USAAF with the Hispanio cannon still fitted and were designated P-400s. Some may have found their way to Russia.

Blond_Knight - Yep both planes come in the ContestPack1.1/PlanePack5.3. You need both packs to be online compatible too.

However, a new soviet Plane will be aviable very soon - the widely used and well known Petljakov Pe-2. Check back in 1 or 2 days...

"Sturmovik" - what plane did you mean ? Il-2 ?

Yeah, I know. The 39 will make a nice addition to the unfriendly skies.

Thanks for the info Kamerades, yes right after I posted this I started the mission editor and saw them there.

I dont know where I got the Sturmovik idea from, I ofcourse was refering to the Pe-2. WOW I bet Activision never envisioned the way this sim has taken on a life of its own.

Thanks again for the heads up.

The P-400 was the EXPORT version of the plane, not just the one for British eval. Yes, some did end up in the Soviets Air Force.

So why didnt the P39 live up to expectations? Some design geek decided that the turbocharger wasnt necessary. Goodness only knows why....

Still one heck of a ground assault plane....

And she was a Zeke killer down low... but we wanted a plane that operated at altitudes, so she was not working out for our needs... Lots of 38 pilots trasitioned from the old "Iron Dog". They used to work up a flight scheme by flying the 38's high, and scaring the Zekes into the lower Altitudes where the P-40 and P-39 pilots ate em up. ;}
Worked pretty well too.
Also, one other rather interesting note, the first 38 kill of the ETO was a combo kill with a P-39 against an FW-200. Both American pilots, so she was used with limited success even there.... doing what she was intended to do, bomber intercept... not good at high alt.s but one nasty plane down low, she is fast and accelerates quick under 10K feet. Start getting higher and her performance drops off (Because of the missing supercharger as stated by Snick).
Keep her low and she will keep you alive after the FM is done... ;}
