Ok, since i got a new mouse and keyboard i have been kicking a*s on the P-39. I've done so much over the weekend i'm moving the floating date of later next week up, to this week. I plan to release the first beta either Wed. Thurs. or Fri.

I will post images tomorrow of what you can look forward to in the release. The FM isn't on the list of things to be ready. I'm not an FM guy so i'll have to send it to someone to do that. But i have to have the model and other little things done first before they can work on it.

New Things as of 9-7-2k
==================================

1. Textured the cockpit so it's not black.
2. Lined up the gunsight so it's fully ready for combat.
3. Added 3D exhaust pipes. (thanks to Rob Falck for the pipes off the P40)
4. 3D Tail (thanks to Jedi)
5. Gun barrels (thanks Jedi)
6 Lighting Fixed (Well there is two left but they are small and will be fixed on the next release)
7. All mapping is done.
8. Release scheme is almost done. (Will be ready for release)

===============================

Only thing left is to finish replacing the gear doors and texture them. Like i said above, i'll post images in this tread tomorrow so check back then.

Now for my request. I need someone to do the training missions and hangar stuff for me. I don't have time to do it and i don't what it to cause the release to slide.

Thanks and Enjoy.

Razer, the first texture 'Air A Cutie' is almost finished and I will see if I can complete a Soviet example to go with it. I'll post some pictures tonight.

You've addressed the majority of my observations above but here are a few more:

1) the inner gear doors are untextured and look like 'ghosts';

2) the radio compartment behind the pilot is empty, I think it would look better with something more solid inserted in there; and

3) the aircraft is listed as the King Cobra in the loadout file. The P-63 was the King Cobra, the P-39 was the Air Cobra.

This is turning out as a very nice looking model, I think everyone is going to be very pleased with the results.

Yard you might have missed this part. The doors will be done before i release it. The outside will be mapped with the skin of the plane and the inside will be mapped on the default greenpanel. I'm also going to put a texture on the area behind the cockpit so you can't see through it.

and like i told everything else, the loadout file everyone else has is the old file i got in the zip. New release will have the real loadout file with everything like it should be.

Argon, i'll send you the plane tonight and jeeve's, thanks I'll send you the plane too so you can test them out. I don't think the hardpoints are right and the bombs might not be in the same place. I've tested rockets and even though they are off, they will still fire right.

look for new images tonight!

as promised, he is the most current P-39 without yardstick's schemes.. You can see the two props in the images. I will release it with two tiff's so you guys can choose which one you like.

I can't wait... I have been waiting for almost a year.... BTW, what FM is this based on right now?
Are there going to be 2 loadouts for the plane? One with the 20mm and one with the 37mm? Or is that going to be too much trouble?
Drooling on the pics..... my keyboard is all wet dammit.... ;}

Spanky here...

Boy that intake is looking sweet.

would there be a way of having a prop image in between? a full circle but just with a hint of prop so you can see it slow down and speed up and stuff.

Mirt, that could be done in the loadout and you could just choose when making the mission. I still have two more surprises set for next week.

Thanks guys,

I sent out "Release Canidate 1.0" this morning to some people for testing and skin work. If you didn't get one then you'll have to wait till the final release Fri or Sat.

I didn't do much work last night caue i wanted to take a break. I'll try to get the gear doors fixed tonight and also see if i can close some of the cracks and fix up the rockets and bombs.

The first release will only have 2 levels. high and low. They high will kick out pretty far away so this first release might not be to FPS friendly. The second release should have the 2nd LODs and move the current 2nd LODs to 3rd.

For those of you that have the version i sent out tonight. There is no 2nd LODs in it. I have yet to make those.

I think the different versions of this plane can be had almost "for free." Changing the gun type can be done entirely in the loadout.ppf by changing the ammo characteristics and sound file. The engine HP can be easily changed in OPS, so P-39D, N, Q models can be created very quickly.

I think some of the Russian planes had four-bladed props, so that's a bit of work, and of course a KingCobra would take some 3D modeling work.

Anyway, it's about 3 planes for the price of one I'd say. Just needs some data as to the armament and engine power of the different versions. And of course a coupla skins.

I kinda always liked the blue-gray Russian scheme myself To me it's a Russian plane. They're the only ones who knew what they were doing in it.

Jedi, this i know, all the surpises set for next week are variants of the P-39. The 4 blade prop is nothing, i already have it created. as for the P-63 parts, i'm just going to alter the P-39 parts and remap them. there is a small mapping problem on the virtical stab and a flipped normal on the left elevator.

I have a text file with everything i need to know about the FM stuff for the D, N, and Q.

Zur is looking over the FM and is going to try to update it before the public release.

I did start on the new B-25 model but wont have time to do antyhing more till i release the P-39.

Razer, the day before you are about to release, send me the updated P-39.sm and what ever awesome skins there are if you want and I'll do a better hangar pic to show the final P-39. The version I got doesnt have the rear cokpit insides and a few parts arent lined up and the pic shows that.

I didn't do the 3D model for the aircobra. Kraft, the guy that started the P-39 did the model. I just picked up where he left off. Though i've done a damn good job on the B-25 model so far. I wont post anything about it till the P-39 and it's offspring is released.

Like Razor said, there are a few gaps to be filled where parts are supposed to meet and one area above the flaps is transparent when you put your flaps down. He also said he was going to fill in behind the cockpit so no worries there. The nose cone is a little off in plancement as well. I did some damage testing and the P-39 seems to... fragile? A few gun shots and the thing blows to bits! Plus the damage parts arent in the correct spots when they unhide. Im very picky as you can see and can spot small details such as this. (good qualities for a alpha, beta tester yes?) There is nothing wrong with the model itself, its great! And what Razor has done with it is awesome! Just some small positioning problems, no biggie

Also Razor, what variant of the P-39 is this? There were many and I was just curious. If you need info on P-39 variants (such as what gun loadouts and bomb/rocket loadouts) I will be more that happy to provide you with the data on them.

for all purposes right now this is a P-39N, if you read the readme file when it's release this will all become clear.

I'll line up the damage LODs but they wont be perfect till later.

FM work wont be in this version, but Zur is working on it so the next version will be ever better.

The damage Lods are those of a P-51 and aren't the right size either, since the 39 is smaller. I didn't touch them so shooting parts offa it will make it look strange, yes.
