Great tutorial, I read some pages, now I'll print it out ! Besides all the things we need (i.e. less accurate flak), I miss more good missions around...

Nice article and thanks for the maps! Only piece I don't agree with is the balance part. One of the best fights in SDOE War was Day 1 Dover. 4 Spits against 7 Me262s and we fought to a draw.....

No, you do not want imbalance like that all the time, but IMHO balance should never be a driving requirement for a mission. Rather, what is the attacker trying to accomplish(and with what)... not always dogfights... and how fast can the defender protect himself (and with what).

But each to their own opinion and good work!

Great article - I saved all the pages.

Should come in handy since my first attempt at mission making resulted in my Ju 88's trying to take off and crashing into those fences surrounding the air-fields.

Snickers... Good point its still something to be considered though. But yes sometimes you should sway it for a bigger challenge.

Flash... Yeah I feel your pain. Next monday or at least early in the week there will be another installment, so you will have the weekend to digest that LOL.

I was going to mark on the maps all the strips that had obstructions to heavy bombers but its all so relative. I got the lancs to take off from one strip in my test missions but the p47 loaded with rockets and bombs couldn't take off from the same strip without crashing.

LOL.

I never realized that the strips were different. I figured they were all generically the same. When I was making that mission, I kept loading the 88's with less and less fuel, less and less of a bomb-load and they kept crashing - never thought to switch them over to another air-field. Like my sister says, 'Pigeons learn faster.'

Finally threw up my hands in disgust and had them start in the air...

Flash, actually don't change the airfield instead change the runway that they are using at that airfield. some work better then others. It should teach you how to do that in the first part of the tutorial. but it expands on that idea in the advanced part next week.

that primarialy what the maps are for, so you know what heading to enter into the mission editor for heading on ground start.

Wait a second...you mean that the initial direction that you give determines which runway of the airfield the planes start on?

Doh!

Oh yeah - just as a side-note:

One of the first gaffes that I made - I tried to set up a 2 vs. 2 dogfight with the fighters starting at airfields. I forgot to specify which airfield so they started off at the same one with each fighter on top of the other! Try it out, it's hilarious. The fighters are on top of each other, struggling to get disentangled!

Yep the heading you set is the runway they use. It doesn't always work right though. It didn't for me last night but it did get the 2 squads i was using to take off from the same field but on different runways at least.
