This project has taken me the better part of two months to get to this point. I entered this project with little real experience in object modeling or the unbelievable amount of effort that is required to make such a model! That said ... I'd like to thank DanW, Tailslide, Pang, SV and Zoycite for their cooperation and assistance while stumbling through this project of mine!

**** NOTE .... THIS IS PURELY AN ALPHA RELEASE THERE IS MUCH THAT STILL NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CALL THIS A BETA OR FOR THAT MATTER A FINISHED PRODUCT!!!!! ****

That said ... here is a list of things yet to be implemented or are in dire need of fixing:

1.) Flight model is 50% done at best ... It is horrendously over-powered. However the top-speed at altitude and the turn-speed are correct to specifications.
2.) The aircraft model is roughly 99% done ... there is a possibility that the I may remodel the gear-doors which will not affect the whole of the model.
3.) The cockpit model is about 97% done. Many of the textures are "works-in-progress" ... and as such will be receiving further detail.
4.) I have not modeled and as such not implemented the air-brakes yet, however they well be in the final model.
5.) There is a possibility I may model the flight control-stick.
5.) The low-detail-LODS have not been modeled and as would be expected, the model is not exactly "frame-rate-friendly".
6.) The shadows are there but suffer from the ol Z-buffer flikering on D3D vid-cards.

Things of note:

1.) The flight model has an interesting bug .... It you manage to get into a spin, There is a good possibility to enter an oddly "stable" back slide that is nearly impossible to recover from!
2.) I've included a hanger mission and three training missions

Again ... remember is this is an ALPHA ... I've released it purely to share my current progress with the community. So please keep that in mind while critique in it!

THE QUALITY SKIN ON THIS AIRCRAFT IS THE PRODUCT OF ZOYCITE AND IS ALSO A "WORK IN PROGRESS".

NOTICE!!!! ... THERE IS NO SOFTWARE-RENDERING SUPPORT IMPLEMENTED YET! iF YOU DON'T HAVE A VIDEO CARD CAPABLE OF SUPPORTING 3D, IT WILL CAUSE YOUR GAME TO CDT!!!

The HTTP download URL is: http://zursfilepile.webjump.com/F86f_av1.zip

HAVE FUN PEOPLE!

(feedback is appreciated)...

Looking really god so far! I thought I'd fired up Mig Alley for a second, but I do believe your F86 looks better.

..Aladar, (can't get over talking to an Iguanadon)

"1.) Flight model is 50% done at best ... It is horrendously over-powered. However the top-speed at altitude and the turn-speed are correct to specifications."

I think this cover that ...

... PR,

Well truth be told ... I used MA as apoint of reference ...

Funny how it's a more-current aircraft than our WWII or WWI birds ... yet it's even harder to find pics and flight-specific on it that our warbirds!

Just a side note ...

Zoycite provided me this scheme so I could release this ALPHA (I can't say that enough) ...

DanW is in the process of working on the skin/scheme that will be included with the final release.

This is in no way down-plays the effort Zoycite is putting into his scheme ... DanW was the first person I contacted in regards to doing a skin for this aircraft ... nothing more.

(just thought I needed to clear that up)

I planned on doing one but quite frankly I have my hands full just with the aircraft ...

Any volenteers?

A few 3d model helpfull suggestions since I own and have put together many a Sabre model (6 to be exact) The cockpit (when viewed from the front of the aircraft) buldges out too much. Also, the tail end of the plane is too fat. On your model, the underside of the tail section (when viewed from the side) buldges out too much thus causing the plane to appear fat. The rear end "tip" is also too big. It needs to be smaller. Only things I see first off. The paint scheme is awesome and I love what you did with the air intakes!

...ArgonV,

Thanks for the recommendations ...

While making the model there were spots where I had to make "artistic descisions" for lack of data ... the canopy and the tail were a few of those spots.

The Chuck Yeager of SDOE.... Rattlesnake.

WOW Zur! Its a damn rocketship. Looks mighty nice guys and was fun to play with. Just for kicks I decided how high I could get her. 100,115 ft with screen shots to prove it. On the first attempt I got around 50,000 ft and stalled it - what was strange was that I couldnt get the nose to turn back to the ground and dropped to the ground tail first no matter what I tried. I suppose it has something to do maybe with the airfoils or cog. Anyway - it was a hoot! Look forward to the finished plane - thanks for all the time you have put in!!

NICE!

The F86 slips tail first as its engine is right on its axis. Compare to the ME262, which will flip back down when power is applied in the same situation

Man I luv this plane ......

(still some fine tuning to do...but should be up at my site in a few days.....oops, make that when the beta is released and/or the texture mapping is finalised )

Only Question so far is ....what's the recommended landing speed and flap setting? ...I keep snapping undercarriages and throughing wheels!

Thanks again Zur

Cheers,

RE: Landing Speed ...

"Right now" the landing speed is between 140 to 200 mph. You have to nurse the stall with the throttle and flare hard right before touchdown ... All with one notch of flap.

...All this may change as the FM progresses

GLAD YA LIKE IT!

SPanky here...

Is it just me or does it like to shimmy side to side all the time?

also i didn't see a shadow so i coudln't tell how close i was to the ground from the outside.

Not complaining, just wondering.

... Spanky,

Yeah she "shimmys" at times ... And the shadow is in fact a problem I hope to have fixed by the BETA release ...

Truth be told ... I think I stumbled upon the crux of my FM problems (the shimmy being one of'm) ... When I imported the model into OPS, I used the Me262 ... Upon import, the wingtips were rotated out roughly 15-degrees. Instead of moving the parts in AC3D, I simply rotated the parts on OPS ... In hindsight this was bad because the matrix for the airfoil was also rotated ...

... SO as far as FS:SDOE is concerned ... my wings airfoils are not swept back ... but either parallel or possibly swept forward a bit.

This could easily explain why the aircraft exhibits its odd FM behavior.

PROBLEM for me is ... to honestly correct this, I would have re-import the wings if not the entire model! (I don't honestly charish this thought) ...

I assure you I'll not be releasing a BETA until I have this solved in one respect or another ...

...AGAS-5,

I'd wait till I released the next version ... I fugured people might do as such (model paint jobs after later or earlier versions).. So I've made dual and six-pack cannon load-outs for just such an occation!

If you want to continue you great paint jobs, I have the dual cannons mounted in the mid-pair of gun-ports ...

Glad you nail'm! (the landings and your exams)

I haven't gotten the 86 as of yet, but it looks good! We just need the plane whose tail is poking up from the bottom of ArgonV's picture next If I weren't engaged in another plane, I'd do it.

...Think, (man I know there is a joke here some where)

After extracting, copy it into your Fighter Squardon folder (where ever that may reside).. If you do this correctly you will get a prompt telling you there is a folder called media that already exists. Would you like to copy over it. (Go ahead am do it ... there is nothing in the F-86 files that will step on anything else)

After that, you should be read'n raring to go!
