Topic: Midway Terrain possibilities

I have been playing around with Nat's beautiful Midway terrain (just look at the screen shot ), and I couldn't help but wonder if we couldn't get a few more guys online in a mission with it...maybe 18 to 20! It would be worth a try and experiment with. If enough people will download the terrain, we can throw together some simple dogfight missions to be played this Saturday. We could try some with 18 planes, then 20, 22, 24, and see how many we can get. BTW, the mission from this screen shot also had the Big Akagi (someone please fix it's deck so we can place aircraft on it) and a Allied carrier (sorry, forgot which one). NatI looked for the SM file for the Big Akagi but it was not with the other files. Sorry. I have been doing nothing but playing with this new terrain. It's like I have a new game! I love it! I wonder, would it be possible to have a little raft and pilot in it right after your pilot hits the silk and lands in the water. After watching so many guys go down in my missions I feel bad knowing that they just drowned.  PR=FC= IP: Logged |

I dont know about how many planes... but the Midway Terrain sure helps out with many ships!INVASION!!!! Jap Fleet: Allied Fleet: Each fleet has about 17 ships and there are 4 planes in the mission (2 in each squadron) I get about 20-30 fps. IP: Logged |

Oh Nat one thing I forgot to mention. I noticed that high up some of your ships wakes clip thru the water. When you get closer it stops clipping and looks normal. Here are the ships Ive noticed this with... Akizuki, Yamato, Hood, Ark Royal (the crippled version too) and the Scharnhorst. Also, the Z1936 does it but thats not one of your ships. Any ideas why this happens? It doesnt happen on all the ships so I was curious.IP: Logged |

Just one word !!!! WOW !!!!Where can I buy this game ? What is the release date ? Is it possible to add new planes ? Do you model spins and stalls in SDOP ? Where can I pre-order it ? Ok more then one word, but PR nailed it. The screenshoots are looking like a new game. Thx a lot for that guys. Looking forward to use this online too  Regards Bakunin

Argon, I've noticed the clipping problem before aswell.. I think it's because the wake clips in before the ship does.. but I can't swear on that at all.. I think the wake should come into view before the ship does though.. it would theoreticaly be possible to stop the clipping altogether by editing the texture on the wake so that there is no texture directly below the ships hull, so it just can't clip through.. but maybe that'll be a future touch up to these ships.Those pics look awesome!! I've never flown in missions over the Midway terrain, I'v only buzzed around in a 51 to check out how it's looking and if things are in the right places etc, so it really is cool to see full Naval action at sea (I'll make this a Naval Battle simulator yet... hehehe) And I'm also really chuffed that the FR is so high letting us have such stunning misions, although if we move onto another terrain after this you will find that the FR's go back to what your used to the more land thats put on there, the lower the FR (more polys) IP: Logged |

Nat, if you want I cant send you the 2 missions Ive made. Ones just the fleet sight seeing (the pics from above) and the other is the Attack on the Akagi using yours and Diegos terrain. You have to have the A6M5, Corsair Pack, Dauntless and basicly all the ships that have ben done (except for the Z1939 and the Scharnhorst)IP: Logged |

Nat, Great work on the new terrain and all the ships, One suggestion, can you add a very low poly lod to the ships when seen from far away, and switch in to your detailed model when up close. That would really pump up the FR and should still look good.------------------ Raider 33rd~GS Raiders Site
