I tried to mail you, but it got bounced back, so I'll post here..Hey Jag, you know what this is gonna be about I have a problem that I reckon you can help me with.. I've been trying to make the Midway terrain stand alone, but I'm having trouble with it, I looked at your pac terrain, you've used your own tile names and have what was the rhineland now on it's own, showing the textures you want, and I just don't seem to be able to do that with Midway (wierd, I managed it with snowy dover), is there any chance you've got time to check it out and see if you can help us? I know you're leaving soon, so do worries if you're too pushed for time. ~Nat~

It was actually the tundra terrain.I D/Led the tundrasuper.tif and made my pacific skin from that. I then opened up the asc file in the tundra.sm (I forget the exact name). I then noticed that all the texture references were tundrasuper.tif.... I just used the replace feature in my text editor to replace JUST tundrasuper with pacificsuper. Then I went through and changed all the tundra references to pacific (for some reason FS has reference to a pacific (that exact name) terrain. So instead of modifying everyones Startup.ppf file (I believe it's in there) I ran with it. Since I had all my texture references pointing to pacificsuper tifs, I just renamed tundrasuper.tif to pacificsuper.tif, diced it up and put it in the textures folder. (Don't forget about the in flight map and the mission briefing map, and the mission editor map. Those haveto be renamed and put into their right folders) I think my fs hangar E-Mail is down..... I'm not getting any mail on that account.

Thanks Jag.. how did I know this would happen, I ask for someones help then solve it myself.. LOL, dunno why I had sucj trouble with it, it's only waht I did with Snowy Dover..Anyway, I got it all fixed up earlier on tonight, so now Midway-beta1 is just this moment being sent to Diego for a browsing over before I release it hopefully Sunday night. Current expected d/l size id 21mb, and due to upload restrictions on Xoom it will be in 3-5 parts (although I want it this way in anycase) there will be 2 texture maps availablr for download, a one with a light blue ocean texture and one with a darker texture, screen shots of both will be posted for viewing, but there's no reason you can't download both and change them as and when you feel like, this will not create mismatches of CTD's. There is still work being done, so this really is only a beta, but once you have the beta, and alterations will be purely in the SM file structure, so updates will only be very short downloads. For the full version we fully expect to have an AI usable airstrip placed on midway atol, and I also need to build up the small atols and convert polys on them to land. So the beta terrain right is now all water and the land is texture only. You can only use aircraft carrier takeoffs and airborne missions. SDOP is brought to you by Nat and Diego

Nat, I take my hat off to your team. I have ben sooo wanting REAL Pacific Terrain ever since the origonal one was put out (the one where is was all land but painted to look like water) I truely thank you. I have ben wanting to perform some Pacific battles with no major land masses, but instead small islands. Thank you, thank you, thank you! IP: Logged |

What you should do is make ALL the islands SM files instead of building them into the map (Just like the towns are built into the shipped maps). This way the SM would cut out at a distance and wouldn't lag your computer. TS came up with this idea and I really liked it. I think if you had the time, this would be a great idea for your map. It would definately cut down on the frame rate.IP: Logged |

it's a good idea, but even on my computer I'm getting 50-60 fps in Midway.. there are just so few islands on it IP: Logged |

BTW, how did you flatten the map and set all the properties to water?IP: Logged |

I created a batch file to run extractor, lodhack, and builder to extract the SM file, alter the material value, then rebuild the SM file, it works great As for flattening the terrain, export a water tile from a terrain (make it one near the middle of the terrain), then hit F5 and zoom out the view so you can see the whole terrain, count down 5 tiles, and inwards 5 tiles fro mone corner, and start importing the exported tile over everytile except those outside of the area you just counted, this will flatten them all, remove everything you don't want on the terrain, towns etc, then save the file. Now you copy the SM into a directory containing hippies par file tool and my batch prog, and run the prog, answer the questions, and it does it all for you and deletes all the crap created after it's done IP: Logged |

btw, when I'm finished I'm going to write up exactly what I know in steps to create a terrain, if you like though I could do you a quick tutorial to get you to where I am now, let me know anyway JagIP: Logged |

I was thinking if you had island "ground objects" you could put them in different spots when you design the mission to represent different island chains. Same map, different terrain each mission. I don't know if you could have runways on them the AI would understand though. Maybe. TS IP: Logged |

must admit, I do like the idea of placeable islands, and it's not that hard to do, but for airfields on them, from what I've learnt of the terrain, I don't think we can have them of the sort the AI would recognise IP: Logged |

does the AI's landing patterns reference the airport SM, or the actual map? It wouldn't make sense to had it relate to the map... my guess is the SM.IP: Logged | |
