I was just reading an article at CombatSim about CFS2 and how mission builders will be able to show previous damage to a target by placeable damaged buildings, bomb craters, and the like. Now...reading the article and what can be can with the mission editor (I hope this one comes through!) makes me want to drool...but I would like to see previous damage modeled here, instead of making the target invisible and seeing a huge blue colored blob where that ground object/town/airfield once was...is this possible? Would make for good realism for the War too !!!------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! IP: Logged |

so basically, you want the same thing as I did with the Ark Royal alternate version? A version of a ground object that is damaged that you can use to build more realistic dinamic missions.Well, there's a good answer, and a bad answer here... with the ships (all of them) and some other ground units, this would be very easy, id't just mean making a new model and adding damage effects/skins to it and you're all done.. mission 1 is to attack the Ark Royal, mission 2 is to defend the crippled ark royal from being sunk.. viola, thats the good answer.. the bad answer is.. towns/targets that are already on a terrain.. well, no, we can't do anything about these to show previous damage, but we could build damage towns/targets to place.. but thats not really what you want to do, which is a shame, see these towns are part of the terrain SM, so every time the terrain is loaded it loads the town again exactly as it is in it's SM file.. like new, and all we have the choice of is making them invisible, which leave a pretty blank square on the map... or is there only me that see's that? Sp the best we can hope for is more of us to make stuff like the damaged Ark Royal to help you buildd the kinds off missions you want. There is another problem, I'm sure you're thinking "ok, then lets build some towns showing damge" Well, after talking to PR about building things like placeable aircraft factories for use in SDOE War, I went out and made one, but knowing what the reult would be.... the result is ofcourse that yes it's easy to make towns, even cities.. but because of the larg base area they take up, you end up with buildings, fences and anything else you put in there "growing out of the ground" See, SDOE tries to place the centre of the SM level with the area you place it, a conciquence of this is that it just can't be level everywhere, and so you get and land rise comming up through parts, and if the land falls away, you get parts floating in the air the best you can hope for in this respect is for us to give you individual damaged structures to place.. these are easy to do since they are already in SDOE, although we could make better ones.. anyway, be cool to have some input in this thread about this kinda thing, it always helps when I'm wondering what to do next ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

I agree...placeable towns are NOT the way to go...but maybe a couple strategically placed damaged buildings placed in town...or placeable bomb craters would do the trick? I wonder how these would affect frame rates? There is really a lot I am looking forward to in the CFS2 Mission Editor...you can even assign waypoints to ships I guess...although ships don't fire at each other. One thing I was disappointed about was the "flyable" versus "AI-controlled" aircraft...I thought there would be flyable Dauntlesses and Avengers...but this is it I guess:: Player flyables: Mitsubishi A6M2 "Zero" Mitsubishi A6M5 "Zero" Grumman F4F-4 Wilcat Vought F4U-1A Corsair Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat Kawanishi N1K2-J "George" Lockheed P-38F Lightning AI only aircraft: Nakajima Ki-43-IIb "Oscar" Nakajima B5N2 "Kate" Aichi D3A1 "Val" Mitsubishi G4M2 "Betty" Bell P-39D Airacobra Douglas SBD-2 Dauntless Douglas TBD-1 Devastator Grumman TBF-1 Avenger Douglas C-47 Skytrain North American B-25D Mitchell Consolidated B-24D Liberator MH...I realize by placing this list I jeopardize this staying here, but please don't send it to Off Topics...I agree with Nat here in that a discussion on damaged towns, airfields would begreat...thanks! ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! well, the placeable damaged buildings and craters are easy, takes maybe 5 mins to take them from SDOE and make them placeableIP: Logged |

And since for the most part these things would be flattened, maybe frame rates wouldn't be too bad A few correctly placed burned-out shells of buildings, trucks and tanks, and bomb craters would tell anyone that this town has already been bombed...maybe have them all together as 1 object like your Stuka refueling team?------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! Hehe, what you guys are looking for is already made. In the Sructures directory there are .sm models of the destroyed buildings etc. They are called and replace the original building when they are damaged. They are called rubble2.sm and rub20.sm and so on. Of course these are in the original par files. We just have to figure out how to get the game to start with these models. I recall MH suggested we Model an object that was placeable like a plane, but had high explosive properties, and would not fly. We place it over a town at a low altitude, when the game starts the object would start in the sky and fall onto the town and explode, causing the buildings to be damaged. Of course this would still effect the score. Just a thought ------------------ Raider 33rd~GS Raiders Site

Raider,Nice idea. Once I wanted to do a mission with a crashed bomber that would be in the middle of the runway. Well, placing a B-17 with Alt=200ft and Speed=0mph did the trick. IP: Logged |

How about a placable ground object that's a bomb? Just position it over any structures you want to show up damaged at the beginning of the mission.. TS IP: Logged |

What about making the previously damaged town invisible in the mission editor and the place a damaged town object over the now invisible town? Condor out ------------------

as I said Raider... "well, the placeable damaged buildings and craters are easy, takes maybe 5 mins to take them from SDOE and make them placeable" It's easy to take them from SDOE and make them placeable, done it already IP: Logged | |
