I have been using it and comparing it with the original damage model and was just wondering if planepack 5.4 could include it? I have found now big problems with it, has anyone else found any problems? It seems to be much more realistic and is nowhere near making it a uber 17.Condor out ------------------

I think it is only right to include a more accurate DM...and it would make the War much more realistic if you couldn't knock out a B-17 with a few hits from a 7.9 mm gun ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! IP: Logged |

I usually make it home in the B17 with a kill to two to boot.. having wings that catch on fire and never destroy the plane really helps

Where can one download this modified DM'ed B-17? I'd be interested in taking her for a spin. The old one seemed to die really easily - although that was balanced out by the fact that each of her gunner's stations was manned by Audie Murphy ;-) P.S.: Is there any way to make the gunners less accurate (crank skill all the way down to zero) without affecting how well they bomb (I assume skill plays a part in that)? Hi Tail,I can't tell if you think the new dm is more realistic or not? Do you think it is creating too much of an uber 17? Thanks, Condor out ------------------

The new DM for the B-17 is slightly wrong, ie, when I did it, I used the wrong weight for it. It was part of an effort to re-DM the heavies, I picked up the 17, and kopper picked up the Lanc. He had a friend who had damage stats and ratings for how much damage something could take. I just estimated the density based on a really rough estimate of volume, came up with a percentage of the volume the part represented for the plane, then took each part's volume and multiplied it by it's base weight. I shoud have used 55,000lbs as opposed to (I think) 48,000lbs or visa vera. The result wasn't percise, but I liked the end results. Actually, the center section needs to be softer, as it normally can survive a really bad crash. I haven't been able to do it in the air, but you can kill also the gunners.Someone might want to add a better DM to the engine nacels. IP: Logged |

I was thinking it might be nice if there were some indication of when your gunners were dead, also. Possible?IP: Logged |

Its a much more releastic DM than the original one. However there is only ONE tail gun in the turret, this does not seem to show up. Theres also a 'ghost crew member' sitting outside the plane behind the tail. Other than these I find it pretty bugless sorry, I did'nt know who made it when I uploaded it IP: Logged |

I don't know what version of the new DM for the 17 you have, but mine doesn't have those issues. I was playing a 5 B-17 mission against a Dam target with 4 37mm archies to greet me, 4 109k's on the way in, and 4 190's when I got close, and the bird I was in got some heavy flak damage to the 1 and 3, not enough to take her down, but enough to give her a shake. Oddly, the plane enetered a gradual decent. I looked everything over from the outside and just had those two engines out. So I started poking around inside. Both the pilot and copilot were toast. The rest of the B-17's suffered horribly, two were shot to pieces, a third suffered the loss of all 4 engines, the 4th lost a tail and then 1 and 2 engines, the pilot couldn't keep her aloft and neither could I - any attempt to correct it was only a temp - the fith didn't drop (bug) and started the outbound route, only to loose the 3 and 4 at the coast line. I didn't check to see if it landed, I was miffed over it not dropping on it's target. I also got reminded that the AI doesn't know BnZ when it comes to bombers, it can't tell them apart from fighters. I'll email the dm I have to someone to check out, and let them worry about the distro - I am too busy.IP: Logged |
