Well you've certainly come to the right place!I purchased FS:SDOE the day it came out, and was eagerly looking forward to it's release six months prior. I had purchased Jane's, and had flown EAW a bit. I flew in Warbirds, Dawn of Aces, and was active in an Air Warrior squadron for over 2 years. I've flown on worked on airplanes, and you could say that aviation is in my blood. My father and grandfather were both pilots. Having said all that, I can tell you that no other sim I've ever flown has modelled flight as accurately as Fighter Squadron. I can't tell you it's a perfect flight sim, but there is active developement by the fanatics you'll hear from on this board. In short, if you love to fly, you'll probably enjoy this sim. I've seen it priced from $15 - $24 on the net, perhaps you'll find it in a bargain bin at a local software dealer. I spent full retail on it, and I've never regretted it. In fact, and this is the honest truth, I haven't purchased one other game since purchasing Fighter Squadron. Pang IP: Logged |

hi with all this modding, how is online gaming. It is protected against cheats, does it have adequert protection. EAW is cool for this, cfs is terrible and it killed online gaming for me. Is the FM good? cfs is terrible, EAW is cool, man that sim is a challenge. What does it mean by "dynamic campiagn? can the germans win or is it following historical patterns, which in that case it is not really dynamic. how good is the mission editor, what can ud do with it. How many planes can u have up in the air at once? What is the scenery like, is it any good, or just basic. Sorry endless questions. I have to be sure. My wife is not happy that I am getting this I have to talk her round. Anyway I want to make sure not waste my money. thanks IP: Logged |

There is a team of players who are adding planes to what we call the "Online Standard". (you'll see a link to it on this board, up at the top) This helps to keep things a bit easier to find for new players, and it's getting better with each new version, which we call "planepaks".There is to my knowledge no way of cheating, and I find that the community is much nicer than any sim community that I've been involved with. It's quite cooperative, not many players that are "win at any cost" types. There is no "dynamic" campaign. There are a host of offline missions which are challenging, and pretty darn fun, but they don't depend on the outcome of a previous mission. There are hundreds of online missions designed by players. Like I said, the FM is terrific. Stalls/Spins are quite realistic, not scripted like in other games. The physics model is outstanding, landing and takeoff is sometimes challenging due to plane-specific inertia/aerodynamic characteristics. You kinda have to experience this aspect. I have fun just taking off and landing! Online you can have up to (unofficially) 16 players. I've heard you can actually go up to 24 or more, but the game would not be very playable, it gets choppy up there. 8-12 players or more is common, and very smoothe online, if you have a good connect. Offline you can have more planes in the air, just depends on how fast your processor is. The mission editor is great, too much to list here to tell you all the features, but you can build missions just like the ones that shipped with the game. I like the scenery, but that's just me. I like the raised terrain, I like the fog, and I LOVE the CLOUDS. Waste the money? Like I said, I've not purchased another game, let alone a sim in over a YEAR. (that even amazes ME!) Get out there and buy this sim!! I think perhaps we should start a seperate board for flight sim wives (widows?). This is a fairly common phenomenon. LOL

Greetings! Wow, people who buy FS are really rare these days. Good to see a new face here. Get FS and get the sim experience of your life. I've not played anything else that's so realistic, and with a so nice, fun (add superlatives yourself), user community! I really enjoy reading and posting here. Drinks are on me!IP: Logged |

yep, I can only say whats said above, fellow Brit here (there are a few of us) and I'd have to say get SDOE, it's just too much fun to miss. Once you get the game try it out, but don't judge it "out of box", as was said above, we have upgraded the game massively, so once installed download at the very least everything thats listed in the Online Standard, 3 reasons for this, the FM for the aircraft is much more realistic and there are maney aircraft added, and without having everything in the online standard, you wont be able to fly with us online. The last point here is the reason why you can't cheat in SDOE online. The game checks what version of SDOE you have, but also, checks the aircraft being used by everyone that wants to join a mission, if they don't match up, you can't fly. You cannot alter an aircraft and expect to be able to use it OK, the online standard is cool, but take a look around our own websites and you'll find a ton more addons! My site is full of ground units that you can use in mission editor. As a Brit you'll probably only get to fly online on the weekends, not because you might not have any time, but because thats the only time we fly thats normaly early enough for us Brits.. lol, other than that, any night/morning of the week at 3am GMT on server California12. I think you'll fnd this game for between £10 and £15 in the UK now, and in no way could it ever be waisted money, this sim is under constant developement Welcome to the group ~Nat~

Buy It man! This sim is Great. The models are superb and this community is making and improving them all time, so SDOE will be in our computer for a long time. My poor connection isn't so good to fly online, but i can't stop to fly it because it's really good. And you can create your missions to fly online or offline with your friends or against them. If you like EAW, I'm sure you'll like SDOE.Loco IP: Logged |

Just re-inforcing what Nat said:1. You will NEED the official patch 1.5. 2. You should get Plane Pack 5.3b and use it from the outset. 3. And you will probably need Sticky's Stickworks free program (www.stickworks.com)to make the joystick less sensitive. 4. Of course, there is buckets of other stuff to increase the joy as well. I never buy brand new sims and got this one at half price, but I only fly this and Red Baron 3D. I have never regretted the purchase. Salute MW IP: Logged |

And many of us have been here since the game was released. I started about 2 months after release. Over a year. This community is varied but great. Absolutely the best group of pilots and people that you will ever run across. We love helping new people get in and addicted like the rest of us. There is alot to see and discover about this Sim.... have fun and ask questions. We really don't mind. Mirthain=FC=IP: Logged |

Take my advice, buy this game! Its awsome and the possibilites are basicly endless. We have planes in this game that have never ben done in any other game. And you can fly bombers and control the gunners positions! When was the last sim that let you get in the top turret of a Lancaster, or a gun position of a Ju-88? We also have the best looking ships around and awsome ground units. The 3d models are surperb and there are things youve only dreamed about in this sim. Folding wings on the Corsair for instance and opening canopys. Theres also a drivable tank! And the best thing is this sim will only get better. Buy it and buy it now! There are many projects in the works as well, so stay tuned. [This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 07-24-2000).] IP: Logged |

They are all giving your GREAT ADVISE ! Buy the game. I have Janes WW2, EAW, and fly fighter Ace, but I like this one BEST OF ALL. You will meet a GREAT bunch of people here that will help you with any questions you may have. I bought my SDOE thru the internet and paid only $14.99 for it, that also included Shipping and handling. If your interested in buying it thru the internet, go to my web site, click on the SDOE button and you will find the link there. Hope to see you in the air.------------------ Be sure to visit my site at http://nosuntzu.homestead.com/index.html Take a Minute to check out over 600 Nose Art Babes at www.zing.com/album/?id=4294669099 Know your ENEMY, Know YOURSELF, and VICTORY is never in DANGER ! Hi Thanks for the great advice and I definitely interested, trouble is well here in manchester, UK, flight sims are dead, I mean dead. I can get mig alley for £9.99 tomorrow, but sdoe, forget it, no one sells it here. I will try trafford centre tomorrow to see if i can get it there, but it looks like I cannot join your ever cool growing sim. It seems the space blasters and shooters rule the day and fights sim are going the same way as the dodoo. It is a shame , as i would of loved to have this sim, and give it a whirl. I cannot get it online, because I do not have a credit card anyway i do not trust the net when it comes to such items. So thanks for the advice guys. Here i come mig alley ------------------

Hi I am sorry the above aptions that are given are not viable for me. Like I said I do not have a credit card, nor will I ask my friends to get it online for me, I do not trust the net. As for me, if where possible, to buy it with cash, this impossible and not worth it. $14, translates to me about £9.70 rough guess, then I will have to put on the charge fee to get the money exchanged, an extra £2, the here comes the crunch. I will have to pay £12 for an international. So you are talking £24.70 to get this game, this also excludes the post and packaging. So Like I said it is no go for me, sorry also I check all the stores in manchester and the surrounding areas, nope they do not have it. In when I asked them if they are getting more copies in they said no, as it is too old for a game. So this puts me out of the picture with this sim. see u later guys IP: Logged |

Hi I have rechecked all the stores in my area, again and they do not have it. LET ME MAKE MYSELF CLEAR I CANNOT BUY IT ONLINE. I HAVE NOT a CREDIT CARD AND IF I DID I WOULD NOT USE THE NET TO PUT SUCH DETAILS ON THERE.
I am not paying £30 for a sim over a year old not matter how I want it. So it looks like I cannot get this sim, so this leaves me to stick with EAW, and the other sims I have. Thanks for the advice. see u in the sky one day.
