OK, I was thinking about what I could do for building better missions.. and thought, hell, everyone always asks how to target an enemy HQ or such, and ppl tell them you have to place a ground unit ontop of it so the HQ gets taken out at the same time.. well thats crap aint it..

So, would you like me to make a couple of bases, and/or convert stuff in the game so that you can place it as a ground unit and actually make it a target in mission editor that the AI would recognise? It's a simple thing and wouldn't take but 2 mins to do.

I already have a placeable airfield.. but thats not quiet ready for use yet... lol, I'll figure it out one day though, got some ideas.

Anyway, let me know if you would use placeable targets like bases , Radar, HQ's etc, and I'll knock some out, damn I could even quickly make a ground target thats say an aircraft on the ground, with a ground crew tending it for you to have as a target.

Tell me if you would use them though, else it wouldn't be worth doing.

Will you have the ground crew run for cover when we come to strafe it? Sounds good to me...

Not quite the same thing, but I'd like buildings in game replaced with ones with better damage models. IE, when you blow up the dam the damage LOD shows water covering the area downstream. When you blow up a factory have the walls destroyed seperately, secondary explosions, fires that spread, etc.

Some of the things I would like....

U-boat pens - something to 'Grand Slam'
Dockyard stuff - cranes, wharfs etc.
Mulberry harbours
Railway stations
Ground Crew !! yes please....
Radar Station
Pill boxes
Invasion barges

And thats just off the top of my head.
It's stuff like this that gives a game an edge.

a lot of the buildings are too small and off scale.

Nat,

I did some "research" into this a few months ago. There are a couple of existing targets that are selectable as mission objectives in the game that aren't available in the mission editor.

However, many of the potential shipped targets do not show their position correctly on the map (they have a square at (x,y) - (0,0)). These are things like the enemy camps, oil fields, shipyards, and miscellaneous plants and radar stations.

There are a few in Dover I have discovered that work correctly - I posted them a few months ago - and can be added as an objective by text editing the mission file including a radar station, fuel dump, and the shipyards and subpen ). I also found an sm file for a mine that is invisible in the game for some reason. Maybe you could add this as either a placable object or fix the sm file so it appears in the game. It looks pretty good in OPS.

I would love a train station and railyard along with more detailed building damage models - like TS suggested.

I did a passenger car once (with the Free trial for Multigen so I can't do anything with the 3d model anymore), but I never figured out how to get it to work right in the game - the wheels never showed up just the cabin. Perhaps you'd like to look at it.

Yes, a train. If we get a staionary one, someone will bet excited and mke one that moves. (Designate some of the roads (especially ones that go over bridges as tracks...)

TG, I naturally thought of docks etc first, and they would not be hard to build, but certainly hard to place on the map when you build a mission, unless you can do it very preciesly, they are easy enought though, hell the sub pen and docks I'd just take from the game, modify them, and put them as placeable units, but you hit problems like only being able to place them in certain areas since the dock must face away from the coast.

Anyway, I'll start work on some things, I've started a Stuka being refueld with some ground crew round it for now.. and thats when I noticed that the groundunits are tiny!

Still, I'll start making some things, the more we have, the better and more diverse missions can be created, and unltimaetly more fun to fly

Thanks all for your suggestions, I'll plug through them now

I had an idea for the Bombers. How about making an invisiable box labeled as Target. Then you can place this target where ever you want the bombers to bomb. This way you can have the bombers bomb exact where you want it without adding a vehicle there.

Maybe for bomber practice, the target would actually be a big round target, with white and red rings. The hit points would haveto be HUGE so you can see where you hit in relation to the target without it blowing up first.

Just throwing out ideas here
