I thought the other day that we are always all begging for aircraft specs and data along with plans yes?

So I thought I would constuct and access database which contains Loads of aircraft along with thier spec and plans.

This way you want to create a plane go look at this one database first. The database would be updated reguarly and alll users could add to it and edit it.

I could also add a feature which would tell you if a user is making/made the plane along with thier e-mail address?

What is your view?

The project would take about half a year to construct and collect data etc. As this would be programmed and released on a website.

Does anything like this exsist already anywere?

What would you expect from the new database?

If you would like to answer a questionair on the subject mail me pirivately:

Jimbo@MrBlob.Freeserve.Co.Uk

Thx

This sounds like a whopping good idea! I have MANY books on ALL types of aircraft, zepplins and ballons (data, 3-ways, color drawings etc...) so if you need anything from those just ask. There are small databases on-line but they are limited in aircraft, specs and plans. I like the 'adding if the plane is already in the works and by whom' idea. I would expect 'blue print' type plans and traditional 3-ways and I also would expect all possible data on the aircraft to be in the data-base.

It gets my vote!

I have spent many hours looking for good 3 way views to build around recently, and the prospect of having a database with all the specs, pics and details is just too good to pass up.

One useful addition might be a register of who is working on what. As well a sproviding valuable data, it could also be a way of tracking all those forgotten projects....
B24, Me163, p39, etc etc etc.

I'm sure this forum is packed with all the info you need to get you started.....

Yes, thankyou. You see this is to be my computing A-Level project. And so the more "you" ask for the more I can do ; - )_ thus the better results.

Yes getting hold of good 3 way views is hard ; - )

thx ...

I'll send you a questionair which I will need to know exactly what is required soon.....

It's a nice idea Mr. Blob, and I don't mean to burst your bubble here.

I know someone that had a beautiful website of Luftwaffe information. Hundreds of color profiles (sideviews) of many types of German aircraft, as well as pics.
Unfortunately, he was told by the publishers of the books he used for the scans, to remove them from his site or be sued. So he took them all off.
I'm afraid that unless everything was Public Domain, you might have the same problem.

Not only that, but in 6 months will everybody still be here, or will they move on to B17II, CFS2, or IL-2 Sturmovik?

It's a nice thought though.

Its an excelent idea, and not just for SDOE. if you havent been to http://members.xoom.com/Butterfield/teampby please do and follow the links to the archive and spcifications page.... I also have drawings with dimensions, but I am having them retouched by a professional graphics artist....
If there is any data that should be there that isnt let me know (not counting the items in read which means I dont have data available...).

Thankyou for all of your suggestions. And if you don't object I'll mail you a questionaire to get the best results out of this idea. It will be an on-going project but will take about hal a year to get up and going....be pacient and it will come.

I will need datas collectors and so on.

As for copywrite laws, As long as I edit the plans and pictures enough, then I should be ok. If I use photos that people have taken or non famous ones then again we can avoid this. Also it depends on the source as to if it will apply to copywrite......

I will bre cautious though....If there is anychance of this being "elegal" then I would keep ALL the database and then you just mail me when you want something...

anyway,.......thx
