I was wondering what you all thought in regard to ranks and insignias.I have noticed that quite a few folks on the bombs away forum have started to use a small "v" in front of their rank, i.e. vCapt. NeatGuy. While I have not been told this exactly, I imagine it is to denote, or qualify the rank, as a "virtual" rank. I think this might not be a bad idea, and is a decent show of respect, and an acknowledgement that we are, in fact, virtual, and not "real" combat pilots, or armed forces personnel. I am not quite ready to go so far as some in the virtual air combat community have, and to say that we should not use ranks at all. I think if we go that far, we might as well consider virtual combat flying as insultory as well, and just play "Frogger" instead. No comments please, Spanky. I just thought I'd throw this out, since more than ever before we'll probably be using ranks more and more what with the war and stuff. I mean all and all, I don't think it's really that big of a deal, because if anyone would be respectful of combat airmen it would be us, but just thought I'd see what other folks thought. Can't quite bring myself to use virtual ranks, it's one stop short of wearing a scarf and goggles, building a homemade cockpit, and screaming PULL UP PULL UP on commercial airliners.. once I go that far there's no coming back TS IP: Logged |

Tail, if you need help with that cockpit, I'm on holdays for a few more days We could grab that Spit fuselage from the air museum, load it up in the shagen' wagon and stash it in your basement. You have enough room for it. IP: Logged |

Actually the virtual rank was a spin off of the virtual Bombardment Groups that were started at Bombs-Away. The (v) placed in front of the Bombardment Group i.e. v91st BG was to pay homage to the real Bombardment Groups that served in WWII. There are many sites dedicated to these real groups and we did not want to mix ourselves up with or steal any of their, much deserved, thunder. We were not trying to be elitist in doing this. Some of the virtual groups have quite a few members in them and need a chain of command albeit a virtual chain of command. And yes, we are still waiting. IP: Logged |

Jag, if we paint it like another pinball machine it has enough lights and switches the wife will never notice.. "suburban camo" scheme. If that fails theres always this. Note the little hook on the back for hanging your IV and catheter tubing you never need to leave! Here's one for you: vLt. Jg TS
- oh no, it's starting..
