hello, First, let me say that after having been away for a while, I decided to visit this site again. hat visit made me put SDOE back on my hard drive! I haven't fired a missile in a month. Second, may I ask where I can find the Hawker Tempest within this domain? The idea of swirling dogfights with TA-152s, 190-Ds, and 109Ks has it's appeal. Not to mention tipping a V1, or "Rat catching" (stalking ME-262s RTB). Finally, I am behind the power curve with my present system (k6-2/333, 8 meg video card - you get the idea). My system is barely two years old, and wasn't a powerhouse at the time I put it together. What's an adequate power curve now? AMD, or Intel for best overall system speed, not just processor. I know I like a Matrox video card for best picture in 2-d, but is NVidia the way to go these days? Sorry for the length. brother Darryl IP: Logged |

Well, let me tell ya, having a D3D card can have its ups and downs. One, older games that have 3D support will only have 3DFX Glide. But, I have found that Nvidia is the way to go. I have an STB Velocity 4400, its great except for the fact that those monopolizing bastards over at 3DFX chose to buy out STB, and its because they kicked their asses. Lousy freaking... well, I wont go into extreme detail about my feelings on the matter. I hope you see what I mean. But hell, Id buy a D3D card just to smite 3DFX!------------------ Aladars ONLY project, the Bristol Scout "Don't move, if we scatter, he'll pick us off! Aladar, thanks for the reply. But what about the Tempest? Or, the gaming machine? I know I saw the Tempest mentioned here before. It will come some day. What about the gaming rig? Got any recommendations for that?thanks again (beware the Hun in the Sun) darryl IP: Logged |

The Tempest is still in the works. A lot of minor 3D work has yet to be done with the lower LODs. And the FM is not good yet. So she's not ready for release, although some pictures of her look good. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for asking!------------------ Pachy perso.club-internet.fr/gledimet IP: Logged |

Pachy, It's looking great! I can't wait to get in that baby, and try the -152 on for size, or do some Rat catching. Not to rush it, but do you have any idea when she'll be posted? Hey, maybe the Spit Xiv next? darrylIP: Logged |

Spanky here... Darryl, About your computer. First off if your picking a card just for SDOE then it seems glide (3dfx) is the way to go. You get a higher frame rate and not as many graphical bugs. I'm thinking you will be looking to play more then SDOE though. I would just say to get somthing recent like a newer 3dfx or nivida they both have there ups and downs. I'm thinking a voodoo 3 or newer or a tnt2 ultra or newer, definatly newer actually with all the new games coming out this fall. About the computer it self. I would say if your trying to save some bucks. Put together a ppga(think thats it) celeron based system with a really good board that not only leaves open your options for overclocking but also for upgrading to a p3. Unless you want to jump right on the athlon band wagon. Try to get at least 96 megs of ram too. I find anything over that is less and less noticible for regular use. IP: Logged |

Darryl, I don't think I'll release before august because I'll be away for 2 weeks in July.I'd really like to see a Spit mkXIV too, but my next project is already chosen Now name that bird IMHO the MkXIV project should be picked up by someone who wishes to learn OP modelling, because the MkIX is a good base to start from. ------------------ Pachy perso.club-internet.fr/gledimet IP: Logged |

Doesnt appear to be a P40. The vert stab isnt shapped right and theres no large intake under the engine.Possibly a P39? IP: Logged |

Pachy, is the plane a French Moraine? the belly intake makes it my guess, but I'm not too familiar with French aircraft. Good luck with it, and I hope to fly it one day (whichever it is)Spanky, I'm looking to get ahead of the power curse with processors. I here Intel is the faster total system, on-line cache, bus speed (not speaking of RDRAM). The Athlon is very good, but it's vendor support always seems a step behind Intel. I watched VIA. It had Intel's game up before it dealt with it's AMD equivalent chipset. Anyway, I read a lot of stuff, but see no clear path. The new Celeron thing is interesting. So is the new AMD bargain processor Spanky, you're right about me flying other stuff. I had to park Janes FA18, and put Flanker2 out of my mind for now. Still enjoy Apache-Hokum, Ka-52, Gunship, Mig Alley, Falcon4, and of course SDOE!!! thanks for the views, all. was I right about the plane? IP: Logged |

I now which bird it is! It's a ??? D520 the best french fighter in the begining of the war! some german pilots used to say that they have prefered flying a d520 rather than a FW190 or a 109E. wondrefull job pachy. just for info,i m creating an RAAF fighter squadron for the SDOE WAR hope to count u in pachy,EYES and Commando already signed.------------------ -=BAB=-lfbpro IP: Logged |

Darryl,What you want for a video card is one with good OpenGL support. The new patches feature an OpenGl renderer that will work with all cards. I would recommend a GOOD brand (Hercules/Guillemont, Leadtek, Elsa) of card based on the Nvidia chipset. Here's why. 3dfx is basically out of business. Expect no more driver updates. Bargain brand Nvidia cards frequently have driver problems. Now for the big 3 left- Nvidia, matrox, and ATI NVidia works hard on OpenGL drivers because of their workstation boards. ATI's always have driver issues, and their OpenGL drivers suck. Matrox is behind Nvidia on speed, but their earlier boards always had great OpenGL support. you may want to go to a user site and ask about their current OpenGL and D3D drivers. The OpenGL drivers give better framerates on most systems than D3D.
