I read about my favourite plane, the Mosquito. The Mossie was used mainly for low alt bombing runs at factories or things like that. They came in at about 1200 feet, and went down to 800 feet close to target then dropped the bombs with delayed explosions. Time delay was about 10-11 seconds so they had time enough to get the hell out of there Can someone make those delayed bombs for Mossie ?? Please Please ! Sounds doable. Hmmm... I'll look into that.------------------ Aladars ONLY project, the Bristol Scout "Don't move, if we scatter, he'll pick us off! Stand Together!"~~Aladar http://fightersquadronworkshop.homestead.com/MainPage.html IP: Logged |

Need it for the PBY also. Raids were made so low, that they sometimes escaped by flying between ships! THX!------------------ Snickers =FC= IP: Logged |

Yep ! I think a "delay-object" would do the job quiet good. One other thing to mention here:The Petljakov Pe-2 is often called the "soviet Mopsquito" - hmm, of course this is total shit in any way, cause the Mossie is (and thats a proven fact) an english Pe2 (cause the Pe2 was constructed (by an imprisoned team !) long time before the Mossie ) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HARRRRRRRRRRHARAAHARAR ! LK

How about some para-frags...bombs attached to parachutes? They were dropped very frequently by the B25 in the Pacific.IP: Logged |

What's to keep the delayed fuse bombs from bouncing unrealistically like unarmed bombs do now? Wouldn't they bounce off buildings? I wonder how the real ones reacted after contact? IP: Logged |

I guess real bombs go down into the ground (or into houses) before they explode. How to do this in SDOE ? Now glue !LK IP: Logged |

Yes..the bombs just crashed into the buildings and exploded after 10-11 seconds. The trick was that all (mostly 2-3 ) planes had to drop bombs within a few seconds. After 10 minutes or so, the next group came in. Mosquitos attacked mostly 30 minutes before sunset, giving them the opportunity to use darkness and sneek out to Albion again ! IP: Logged |

Real bombs will bounce, too. An A-10 pilot on Compuserve once commented on how disconcerting it was when the drag fins failed on a bomb he dropped. He looked over a few seconds later and here was this bomb flying formation with him.IP: Logged |

I interviewed a fellow who flew Defiants out of Malta in '42. He said they use to skip the bombs off the water to hit the Italian/German supply ships. He said they were regular bombs and nothing fancy. He mentioned one time he was skipping the bomb and when he looked up the bomb was above him. He had to bank quickly to avoid getting hit by his own bomb.Amazing innovation on their part wouldn't you say?

Somebody model this one..... In my research on the PBY, I found that in the Pacific, they would fill 55 gallon drums with used coke bottles. While over enemy troops at night, they would dump this out the side blisters. If you have ever blown ito a coke bottle to hear the sound, imagine 4-500 of them falling from 5000' just after you got to sleep! Snickers.... I like that one ... On flying projectile note.... my bro in-law USED to be a RAAF F-18 Jock. A few years ago he was on a prac ground attack run..he had dummy 250 lb iron and 250 lb retard bombs. Anyways...he lined up the tgt ....hit the tit on the retard switch as he nosed up and went inverted to watch his work. He reckons he shat as he saw the iron bombs taking off in a parabolic arc off the bombing range. They landed 5km off range and missed a farmers house by 200m .... but took out one of his prized cows....it cost the RAAF a shit load of money to get out of that one ! On his retirment he was presented a rosewood plark (?) with fragments of the blue iron bomb on it ...the plark was titled 'The Barn Door Prize' Cheers, ------------------ AGAS 5 Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation IP: Logged |
