Well I managed to get into three of the missions, as an Axis pilot, so here's my sitrep for the end of the day:

Mission 1: Dover 2, defensive

Had trouble getting started up, something fooed on my keyboard it seems. Or just general dumbness on my part, maybe I kept hitting R or something.

Anyway after getting airborne in my shiny new 262 I start the climbout. Then I went to type in something, but instead of hitting the ` key, I hit escape. Now I type a lot so I don't look at the screen, I typed in the message and hit return and poof. DUH!

Still, the default key for message send should be a moved a bit away from the mission end key, dontchathink? Kinda like putting the "wings fall off" button next to the seat adjuster...

Obviously I didn't see the end of this one, but I understand it was generally favourable for the LF, or a tie anyway.

Mission 2: Africa 2, defensive

Seeing as I just wasted the most expensive plane in the game, I figured it would be wise to fly a cheaper plane. Climbout in my 109G6 was easy enough as I flew to the rally point.

The Allies had wisely set up a flak somewhere nearby so I'm getting pinged about rather heavily. What are the specs on these things anyway? I was up around 8k and couldn't see it but it was hitting me after 45 seconds of "straight line" flying so the range must be good!

After finally riding myself of that pest I got into the thick of it with a series of P-51's. It took a lot of hits to do it, but I bagged myself a 51!

The LF flew home to an overwhelming victory.

Mission 3: Deutchland 2, offensive

Oh no, 262's only! Well ok, off we go. I couldn't even see the runways so I just ignored that and took off cross field with a little bit of flap helping.

After getting airborne I'm starting to type a message when I look away from the screen (at my bird who roams free on weekends) and when I look back I'm piling into the side of a mountain.

Sigh. That two 262's written off.

I did get to watch the rest of the action this time though, and had great fun watching a pair of Spits eat Farmer - he appeared to have very little throttle on at the time (30% or so) so they sidled up behind him and that was that.

One of our planes made it home alive but the rest were dead, and the offensive on the airbase was clearly a wash. The Allies won a clear victory on that one!

Well now I can't wait for next week! The War changes the entire nature of the game IMHO. The network problems were basically not there, CDT's were rare and everything ran shockingly well overall. Kudos to everyone involved in some of the most fun I've had in years!

Some suggestions:

All mission times for the next set of missions (one day's worth) should be CLEARLY POSTED on the main War page, translated into various local times. Also include the channel (california?) and the date itself.

The main page should also include the servers patch in the downloads area, which I needed on my machine for whatever reason.

Finally it should also include links to any private pages for both sides, so we don't have to poke about in the message boards.

Looking forward to next week!

Maury

Well sounds like you had some communication problems. I would heavily suggest that you work on getting Roger Wilco for the next mission as those 262's are expensive. Well done on the P51 though, did you grab any screen shots?

Dover 1: 8 vs 4 in superior numbers and superior aircraft but losing the same number of planes and pilots as the enemy, and not obtaining your bombing goals is not even a draw....

Wouldn't you know, my joystick picked Sunday morning to break on me. AAAAAAARGH!!! I X'ed Mig Alley off my harddrive just to make room for a reinstall of SDOE...JUST to fight in the war. So, I missed everything. Hopefully, I'll have a new setup by the next round. BTW, I'll be flying for the Axis under the name "The Repo Man." I can't friggin wait to throw my hat in the ring.
