Well, things are starting to pick back up here. The service was great and a ton of family was there, Even some i haven't seen in many years..

Well, i also got the new motherboard and a new Voodoo5 installed ont he home computer, but with no net till later in the month i wont be fully up and running till july. I'm also haveing a few problems with the new board or the new video card. The computer wont stay running. it runs for s bit then locks up. i up'ed the voltage but it didn't seem to help. I reinstall drivers that came with the motherboard and reset the CMOS since it has a wierd CPU setup for overclocking. Nadaa!

I can't even run it long enough to do anything. So right now the home computer isn't even running (well). i was playing around with a Spit XII (while the puter crashes) and i have the name changed over and the textures all looking in the new dir. I changed the nose LOD to show the griffin nose but it doesn't show up in game. i checked and double checked the LOD and unless there is another LOD for the new that it's using. it doesn't want to change the nose. So i give up..

i haven't worked on any other planes cause the puter is being bitchy. If anyone has any ideas on the puter or the spit XII then reply.

The mobo is a Soyo 6VCA with the 133 apolo chip..

Welcome Back. Computer locking up eh? Do you have a fan on your V5? And have you checked to see if it has a IRQ? It needs one of those. Also, all the Video Shadow and Video Ram stuff in the BIOS needs to be off. And the Boot From (whatever) needs to be AGP if your card is AGP or PCI likewise. If you dont have that setting in your BIOS dont worry about it. Then make sure there are no conflicts. Report back after youve check all of this please. I will assist.

Last time that happened to me it was a dead CPU fan.

I've got my new V5 up and running very smoothly in my old P2-450 rig. I read all sorts of stuff about the power demands of the card but have had no problems with it using my 200 Watt power supply and no aditional cooling. I had some problems initially with a couple of Glide games (notably EAW and GPL) not running in Glide, but copying the Glide2x.dll from the windows/system directory to the relevant game root directories sorted this out.

The system is very stable and the graphical quality is very impressive. I am seeing no significant increase in my framerates (but most sims are CPU limited anyway) so I am running FSAA x4 which looks awesome.

The one cloud on an otherwise sunny vista is that SDOE will not run in Glide above 640x480. As the game used what appears to be a proprietary version of the Glide2x.dll, I haven't been able to use the above fix to rectify it. D3D works fine although framerates are about 50% of those I got on my old V2 SLI rig and the usual corruption of the graphics seen with D3D in SDOE are still present. At the moment I am considering reinstalling the V2 SLI and using a Glide switcher to use it in SDOE.

OK, i did a little test last night and i found out it's the computer and not the Voodoo5. I put the Voodoo3 back in and it still locks up. I checked all the fans and they are work, i upped the voltage since it seems unstable and that didn't help. I reset the CMOS and then switched all the video shadowing to off and it still crashs. It just locks up and does nothing.

I'm out of ideas..

Bad memory chip maybe?

As for the Spit, check your switchin distances. It may be that you only fixed the close or middle-distance .lod to the new shape, but it isn't becoming visible because it has the wrong distance set.

For an external body part, I use about 10000 or less as the switchin for the highest detail .lod.

Of course, you DID copy the actual .sm from your working directory to the sim, right? I wouldn't ask, but I've spent like an hour before pulling my hair out when a correction "wouldn't take" only to find out I was working on one .sm but playing with another one.

Glad to see ya back!
What kind of RAM chips do you have? Simm or dimm?
I had the same problem after changing boards on my old puter. The problem was that it didn't like high density simms.
I put (1) 128 dimm chip in and she fired up and was very stable.

My girlfriend was experiencing computer lockups after building her system, and it turned out to be a bad chip of RAM. She exchanged it for a different one, and its worked fine since.

i'm checked everything on the nose 20 times and it just doesn't work. So i just gave up on the spit xii.

As for the mem, It's a brand new chip and i didn't have any problems till i upgraded to the new motherboard. I did find a new bios for it and says it adds support for coppermine which my chip is so i'll update the bios tonight and see whats up...
