When you get a new aircraft.... lets just say an Me163. Does that aircraft replace another? Is that plane always usable in single missions and mulitplayer? Or do the people I am playing against in MP have to have it also?

That plane will not replace anything, it gets added to the list, and yes, everyone you are flying with online needs exactly the same files, or you will not be compatible online.

So if I have those files and someone else doesn't, I won't be able to play online? Is there any way to temporarily remove those files while I am online?

You can play online. You just can't fly in missions that have aircraft in them that you don't have. Then you will have to find a mission that contains only aircaft that you and the other players involved have installed. Doesn't matter what other planes you have installed. Just the ones you use have to be the same.

Actually, there is one case where installing a new plane will conflict with an existing plane. With some of the older aircraft, the authors started with an existing plane and modified it. For example, for awhile there the game considered Pete's F-15 to be an ME-262. If you had the F-15 installed you couldn't fly online if the mission had an ME-262 in it.

I believe that most people now make a point of splitting a new plane off on its own so that conflict doesn't happen. But if you grab an older plane then this FYI might save you some troubleshooting time.
