Anyone tried the V5500 yet. I just get garbage graphics in Glide. I don't seem to have any problems in other games, nice and fast and 4x FSAA is pretty stunning - EAW at 600 x 800 actually looks great (and I'm not a big fan of EAW's graphics).

I know there have been some problems for V3 boards with SDOE. The V5 seems to be picked up as a V3 in many of the legacy games I've tried. Any ideas?

BTW this board is a monster, I've had to move my HD just to fit it in the case!

Hi Jet, yep been a little quiet recently, been dealing with wedding plans - what didn't I mention that - well it was a case of end the relationship or get her a passport

Started to put the first few bits of the new machine together hence the V5500. So far so good but it is a waste of time for SDOE Glide won't work and D3D is all screwed up (missing textures, lod switching distances way too short and some 3D mis-alignment).

Not a major issue as I am not playing much SDOE but is does meen that it will have to stay on P2-450 (V2 SLI) rig and not on the new P3 which I will put togeher as soon as some P3-900s become available over here.

i picked up a V5 Sat, and yes Glide is screwed. Thought D3D isn't bad with 2x FSAA it would just be a lot faster in glide if it would run. I only get 56 FPS where i would be getting 100 if i was in glide.

Oh well it still looks better.

How about running Glide using the FSC beta - will the V5 be OK with that?

Just a suggestion; the textures and such are stored in packed files on your HD and are being reused every time you enter a mission. Perhaps these need to be renewed for the new card. Try selecting the option to conserve HD space, load a mission in each theatre (it takes some time) and then deselect that option again. That should renew all the texture data files upon the next entry and perhaps solve the problem.

Or not .

if you saw what me and yard see in glide you would know it's not the textures on the HD. Yard have you had any problems with the computer locking up since you added the V5?

P2-450, Gateway OEM 440 BX board (going soon) 256mb, SB Live.

Her are some further observations:

The thing is a monster - almost twice the size of the old TNT I replaced. I had incredible difficulty in moving my hard drive which was mounted in a 3 bay box opposite the AGP slot but I have eventually managed to get hold of some 3 1/2' drive bay mounting brackets which should do the job.

Tried it out yesterday and I seems to replicate the performace of the old V2 SLI rig I have just pulled out but with 4X FSAA on so I'm pretty happy. Legacy support is patchy though - I'm mainly a flight simmer at heart and one of the reasones for the purchase of the V5 was to squeeze some better visually out of some older classics. For those that are interersted here are my findings on the games I have tried so far.

UT / Unreal - works fine with 4x FSAA
Myth / Myth 2 - works fine in Glide with 4x FSAA
Falcon 4.0 - works fine in glide with 4x FSAA
EAW - Glide broken, works fine in D3D with 4x FSAA
Grim Fandango - works fine with 4x FSAA but keyboard access of the menu is eratic
Jedi Knight - works fine with 4x FSAA
GPL - software only (others have got this running in Glide with 4x FSAA)
Red Baron 3D - runs fine in Glide with 4x FSAA
Fighter Squadron SDOE - no Glide, D3D full of missing textures, 3D tears, Lod detail switching problems etc
Comanche / Hokum - working in 2x FSAA only
Quake 2 - software only
Theif - working in 4x FSAA
F1 Racing Sim - works fine in Glide with 4x FSAA

Overall a mixed outcome - with unfortunately some of my favourate games (SDOE and GPL) rendered unusable. I wil try the old format / win '98 re-install option in the next few days to see if things are better. Pity I had hoped for better legacy support.

Razor: no lock-ups - stable so far. Tried deleting the SDOE text cache but no change. At the moment the V5 is a waste of time for SDOE, I will try an track down a glide switching utility I saw a while back for those with a Banshee / V2 combination and stick the V2 SLI back in.

Further update on the V5. The detail sliders got turned right down which explains the texture anomalies and weird lod switching distances. D3D is working fine, but being used to Glide, I think butt ugly even with 4x FSAA - still have the texture tearing arround the coast.

I managed to solve the Glide problems, it seems that the 2 VSA 100 chips don't agree with SDOE at resolutions above 640 x 480 - bummer. At higher resolutions the screen scan line interface is way out of alighment every couple of lines. Methinks a driver fix is in order 3dfx.

Did you resolve your graphical problems?
Can I change my cards settings to enhance SDOE?

GPL has a D3d wrapper now so try that too, works great on my geforce.
Have you tried Sdoe with the opengl command?

This is why I stuck with my V3 3000 AGP and didnt upgrade. I saw no use to upgrade, everything works and its smooth. I'll probably have to up my CPU from PIII 500 to a PIII 600. Do they make PIII 600s that use a 100mhz BUS? Cause thats as high as my BUS can go.

My system specs:
PIII 500mhz
One 2.37GB harddrive, one 5.34GB harddrive
160MB of PC100 SDRAM
GA-6BA 440BX PII/PIII Baby AT Motherboard with 100mhz BUS
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP graphics card
SB Live! X-Gamer sound card
17 inch Proview 770 monitor
56k V.90 Winmodem
One 6x DVD Rom drive, One 12x CD-ROM drive
Two 1.44 floppy drives

P.S. Keep in mind that I bought and put together this system myself last February. (Im only 17 and do not have heaping gobs of money to buy the latest and the greatest) I managed to somehow get everything working and for everything to be compatable with each other and I didnt have to return a single part because it wouldnt work with something else. For this reason, I call my computer the "Frankin Freak"

Spyder,
have patience with me.

Q. What's, where's my GPL?

I use opengl on quake but that was already set up for me.

Q. How do I set the opengl command for SDOE?

ArgonV,
I'm really pleased with the Voodoo5 card. It's excellent with all games but I feel I could get more out of it within SDOE. And of course, that's the programme I use the most. Bummer!
Razer said that if we could use glide then we would get fantastic graphics, 100 frames per seconds.
Do you think this will happen?

I reciently broke my hat swich on my trustworthy Trustmaster PFCM. It was great when you wanted to move the point of view when outside the plane.
At the moment I use the key pad to change my viewpoint but it frequently struggles to move fluidly to the angle I require and at times, stops. Very frustrating when you want to set up an attack or look at the damage inflicted on the enemy.
Q. Is this a graphic problem or is my keyboard gubbed.

Pogo, the GPL (Grand Prix Legends) d3d wrapper/driver was a follow up to Yardstick's list of games.

Opengl in sdoe isn't very good as it was never finalised for retail sdoe, I'm not sure about the betas though.
You add the command to your sdoe shortcut icon if you have one in the 'target' programme box.
I think it's /ropengl to the end of that line, but I would check the handy dandy doc first, it's been a while.

My next card probably will be a G850 - I gotta ditch this ATI Rage Pro since it is crimping my dual monitor fun. My SDOE card is V3.
