Well, I was bored this morning and didn't want to work on anything on my work list. So I rearranged a few things on the computer so I could get a CD drive working to install AC3D.

I sat in front of the computer for about 10-min thinking of a plane I could do a 3D model for. After looking over the Beaufighter, Ki-45, and a few other variants.

Stuff like the Griffen Spitfire and completely redoing the P51B. I came to a page with a nice looking plane, one that I have flown many times in Ace's High and figured it was something we needed since the country is already in the game.

I'm proud to post the first image of the MC 202.

I probably wont finish the whole plane; instead I will finish the 3D model minus the cockpit and release it for someone to finish since I have a full plate as it is. When I finish the model it will need to have the lighting fixed since I'm doing it in AC3D. The framing will be done soon and I'll make the horizontal stabs 3D like the vertical one already is.

I feel this way it will help someone that's not really good with 3D models but good with everything else.

If this catches on I may do other planes just like this so it doesn't slow other projects.

I wish I knew what I was doing. I'd pick it up where you left off. I'm REALLY thrilled that someone had the foresight enough to do this!

I'll tell you what, I'll continue to work on her as long as it doesn't slow the Ki-61 down. I'll get the cockpit framing done and work on the gear and other little things. Then it would just be work to get it flying. I'll have to texture it before i get it in game and the lighting will need to get fixed before i can texture it.

Since Dan has left Jt is the only one i know of that can fix the lighting. And I know he's really busy. I already sent him the Ki-84 and I don't want to send him this. If you know how to fix the lighting and you want to take a crack at this plane, then mail me and i'll send it over in any formate you want.

Razer, I don't understand this:
quote:
it will need to have the lighting fixed since I'm doing it in AC3D

I don't think AC3D creates shading problems by itself. I think lightning problems are created by incorrect surface normals. This can happen when you have obtained a part out of a symmetry operation and you did not flip its normals, or if you used "optimize vertices" on something that should not be smoothed (like a wing trailing edge). I have no big shading problems on the Tempest, and I think the posts (in particular mposis') in this thread helped me a lot.

Now, I must admit the Tempest LODs were not build from scratch but are still modified Typhoon LODs, so your problem is not 100% the same.

well when I make them from scratch I have lighting problems, LODs I import are fine.

That and modeling is still pretty new to me so i'm still learning the best ways to construct the plane or what ever it is i'm working on. I have learned a few things but i'm not really that good.

**update**

i finished the cockpit framing and glass and will finish the prop and little details like exhaust, gear, and finish the tail.

i'll post images tomorrow..

Razer,
I will be glad to take up where you leave off. I can't make 3D models, but I can do the rest of it. I will do it for anyone else that has models also. Just send them my way.

Wow, Razor your still alive... I thought real life had claimed another one.. did you ever look at the Ki-61 one gear? Bjorn told me how to do it but i just suck a$$ at DOFS. I can move them with OPS and make them line up and stuff but when it comes to creating them i'm complete crap.

: )

I'm going to continue working on it and see what i can get finished. I figure, unless the wheels are completely different them the wheels already in game we can just use some old ones. Guess we sould use the ones from the Ki-61, they look pretty good.

Razer,
I never could get the wheels to work. Send it to me again if you can. I will look at it tonight and see what I can do. I got into R/C Planes and that has taken up most of my time. I just spent over $1000 on them. They are built now, so I have more time to get back to SDOE now. Send it to: skyraider@planttel.net I will get right to it tonight after work. I think I still have the one you sent me before, but to make sure I have the latest one, send it again.

That's really great Lem, question: is the top of the plane really that pointed? I can tell in the images i have so mines pretty square.

You know we could use that model in SDOE, just run it thought a polygon reducer a few times and it would be perfect.

What's the poly count of that model anyway?

Here is an updated image of the MC202, i screwed the nose up when I noticed that it wasn't round when i imported the new prop. Playing with it just made it worst. This will need to be fixed later. Somethings aren't perfect: wings to long, cockpit not long enough, and it lem's images are right then the top is to wide.

if you reg. AC3D you get beta7 free. It's 45 U.S and it's a one time fee. you get all release from now on if you reg.
http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/computing/users/andy/ac3d.html

go there and reg. and you'll get a URL for the reg server and you can download the full version once to pay the 45 bucks.

Poly count is 2500 for this one.
The spinner is from 202 instead of 205.
Hopefully i have my PC stuff running at weekend, then i scan you drawings from the books italian f riends sended me for this project. I have already a 1000 poly version for another project finished.

202 vs 205 differences:
202 fixed tail gear and only 1 oil cooler (109 style) only MGs, no cannons in thew wing.

And finally a Vrml model you might find helpful. Use it if you want. I also have contact to an Italian historican who helped me. Mail me and i can arrange something for you.

Wow lem! That looks really great. Now, wouldn't it do your heart good to see a plane like that flying in SDOE? :-) Since OPS now supports VRML, I have my fingers crossed that you guys will be able to get this model into the game. Italy is in need of some native aircraft I think.

cheers,
charm
