Sorry for the off-topic post, but I thought all the talented painters/skinners/tweakers here might be interested to know:I've just released a utility that allows you to unpack and then repack the contents of the Jane's WWII Fighters in-game data archives. These archives contain all of the plane skins, cockpit graphics, object textures, terrain tiles, plane, object and cockpit 3D object files, flight model coefficients, object movement coefficients, museum interface images, text, captions and descriptions etc. In short, the whole enchilada.
Most of these files, apart from the 3D model data, are stored in bitmap or ASCII text and can therefore be easily edited. Once edited, they can then be repacked back into the archives and used in the game itself. The end result is that almost everything in the game can now be customized. Some sample screenshots showing modified plane skin and terrain tiles can be found here [note: xoom.com doesn't allow external links, so you may have to cut and paste the URLs below into your browser's address textpane]:

The modified textures shown in the images above were used to test the utility, they are not intended to be representative of the final results that could be achieved
The utility is called SQzip and can be downloaded from the Downloads section of WWII Fighters Online http://members.xoom.com/ww2f It's a 31K download and comes with a text document explaining its use.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me at dicksons@direct.ca or to post a message on the Message Board at http://members.xoom.com/ww2f
Enjoy!
S.
P.S. A more user-friendly graphical user interface around the utility is currently under development.
