Well I got the 190a4 taking off fine with Jeeve's campaign under AI control, however they were stubborn in sub hunt. Even though I could take off no problem, the AI isn't smart enough to apply a couple clicks of right aileron trim or right stick to counter torque during takeoff. (older versions of the 190 had less torque because the gear ratio between engine and prop was waaay off, this also caused the climb rate to be off) The only way I can get the AI to takeoff right is to angle the wingtips so the plane will automatically keep level with default trim settings. This has the added bonus of making one wing drop first in a level stall. ANYWAYS this would be the first time I would be fudging any data in the aircraft I am working on. I'm sure I could find a more realistic way to make the wing drop in a level stall but I don't know any other way to get the AI to takeoff. So... should the planes have fudged numbers if this will make the AI take off? TS IP: Logged |

Tail, my opinion.. well, if there's no other choice.. then thats the way it'll have to be... but if your little "tweak" there means the AI can take off, and we don't have handling probs etc, then thats better than having bad numbers I thinkIP: Logged |

I vote no for online gaming, none of the missions should be designed with ai in mind for online use as they're crap anyway. Offline fine, maybe two variants of the 190 to suit both parties. Actually it's funny, designing the game to make the ai happy! Kill em!------------------ IP: Logged |

... Tail,As I've stated before ... Use the known numbers/data/performance specs until you can't squeeze anymore out of the "known" stuff. A fudge is only truly viable when despite the best application of the above data ... your FM falls short in one respect or another. I do however agree that fudging the FM to accomidate a pathetic AI is just wrong ... I think I know you well enough to know that you WILL find a way to handle the AI situation AND have an accurate/authentic FM. I have faith! IP: Logged |

One thing that may help is that we're likely (I'll know for sure next week) going to have to beef up the AI properties for aircraft in RCSim. Things that are currently hard-coded will be moved to properties so they can be set on a plan-by-plane basis. This will very likely help in the problems you're having. Again, I expect I'll know next week if the work will make it into RCSim. If it does, I'll roll it into the patch beta.IP: Logged |

MH, that is GREAT news!! The AI takeoff problems have ruined a lot of missions. It's tough to have to trade off accurate FM's against ruined missions.IP: Logged |

I've felt for a long time that the AI properties are one of the (few) areas that Openplane needs some serious work in. Happy to hear dev is engaged, and good luck getting it in your game!charm IP: Logged |

Zur, that's the problem.. after a year, I actually managed to collect most of the real life data for the 190 and spit! It doesnt leave much wiggle room... That's great news Michael ! Also, being able to set default takeoff and cruise trim settings when you design a plane would help a lot the sim could set them depending if it was a land or air start. TS

Spanky here.. I say no to fudge. Also I'm glad to hear MH is on top of it. I hope he has the time to put it in. As this sim is greatly in need of it. BTW I think part of the problem with AI take offs is, they don't seem to care about lining up or correcting their couse on a runway until they are already off of it. IP: Logged |
