PR - As you already know, I will take to the skies in the 109 defending the honour of my namesake and the fatherland.

K, someone give me a crash course in German pre-showdown trash talk. The best I can do is "Das ist wundabar" (sp?) and "Deutschland uber alles!"

Except for a glitch with the last mission (all my fault) the 2nd phase of testing for the SDOE WAR went very well.

Many of the problems experienced will be easily avoided once everything is in place.

Well intentioned newbies stumbling into a game will not happen because SDOE WAR missions will be password protected.
Also, for the SDOE WAR the current online standard will be the only one used.

I played the role of the Mission Observer and had a blast keeping track of action and resulting damage done.

Here is a slide show of some of the action from the second Africa Mission...

1) Gecko on bomb run seeing trouble brewing
2) Gecko drops his load!
3) Neal gunning for Mad Dog?
4) Ju-88 (Mad Dog) smoking
5) Neal see's destruction of his field
6) P51 pilot, maybe Psi
7) Psi?
8) This FW190 pilot is about to have a bad day
9) Told ya so!
10) Neal lands on one wheel
11) Gecko after a bad day for the Axis.

The slide show takes a bit to load, but it's fun to see the action from yesterday.

Thanks to all that help test this. We are oh so close to going live!

SDOE WAR....don't be left behind!

Hey PR, I just thought of another idea for ya. You may already have this one, but here goes anyway. There should be a provision such that aircraft that make belly landings, one-wheel landings or other less-than-perfect but better-than-kaboom on their airfield cost less to replace than buying a new airplane. Recall that often "pranged" planes during the war were rebuilt because it was cheaper than making a new one. I had this thought after seeing the P51 and Ju88 have damaged landings in your slide show above.

Just a thought...

It's a good thought Werner!

And, it's also covered in the Article of War. We actually have taken that into consideration and infact the P51 and the Ju88 shown both survived the mission, landed back at the proper base, and will only be assed the usual per plane maintenance fee that each flown aircraft is assesed per mission.

By the way, that was a nice landing by Neal!

PR,

I had a lot of fun with your "Virtual War" and find that the sense of realism made it more intense. Getting home alive being the 1st priority and kills being 2nd is much more fun than hack and slash air combat. And making a good landing be just as intense as the combat. It aint over till your P-51 rolls to a stop. If I still have opportunity to inlist I'd like to. Besides Commander Nealg needs someone to protect him (kidding Neal)
Thanks PR,
Psi

The line starts here!

Seriously though, we will have forums open for signing up for the Axis or Allied side very soon.

Who will be the Commanders of the 1st War is still up for grabs. Neal and Gecko have been great for the testing we have gone through, but I believe they want will be willing to hand over the reigns to someone else.

If you know of someone who is a good decision maker, as well as having a good head on his/her shoulders, nominate them for Commander of the Axis or Allied side.

It's a tough job, and not for the faint of heart, but hey...you guys are SDOE'ers!

Yes, this would be a perfect vehicle for the SDOE Gazette! Stories of the pitched battles flown the night before, interviews with the Commanders from both sides, details about how the War is progressing, Bases captured etc.

We should have the Axis and Allied signup areas live very soon. This will allow anyone who would like to participate in the SDOE War a place to signup for either Axis or Allies.

We still need to get the 1st War's Commanders locked in. Will Tail accept the nomination to be the Axis Commander?

Who will step forward and Command the Allies?

Don't be shy! Your Countries need you!

PR,

Maybe a poll is in order to see which sides fliers want. That way the task of selecting a Commander would be easier. We don't want to nominate a person for Commander until he or she chooses an allegiance. If I am the first person to vote its for ALLIED. Were gonna kick yer asses...

I would pick Japan but we'd get our ares's kicked with only one plane. Wish the computer wouldn't have died then i could have released the Ki-61 for the battle. Oh well!

Axis here i come!

how about a "once your dead your out" rule. That way other pilots waiting to fly can get like backups and new recuits. People that live can still fly even if they crash landed or bailed out!. Man this sounds cool!!!!

Razer,
Correct me if I'm wrong PR but, I believe that is the rule, if your KIA then you go to the bottom of the line. I suppose a tally could be kept and if you get killed so many times your dead forever but mot for me to decided. I also think that some people deserve a higher rank than Lt.JG to start. The Commander will need wing Commanders with the ability to lead his squad into combat and assure the return of that wings aircraft and pilots as well as kills and damage reports. What do yas think???

I will be proud to serve on either side, as a fighter pilot. Bomber intercept in the 262 would be my first choice though.

How about attacking a moving, user piloted column of Tigers in your Jug!!!

I'm not the best pilot
Think my stick is too sensitive
Crappy connection
And my frame rate is bad

However, I'll do my best and hopefully I have a good commander!

I second Tailslide's nomination, for command of either side (his choice, of course)

PEOPLE THAT ARE DEAD ARE THEY ONLY DEAD FOR THAT MISSION OR FOR THE WHOLE WAR.
IF SO THEN IT WILL BE A BIT HARD ON THE INEXPERIENCED PEOPLE.
AND WILL YOU BE ASSINED A AIRCRAFT LIKE YOU ARE A BOMBER PILOT FOR A HOLE WAR OR FOR FIGHTER PILOTS YOU COULD START OUT ON A WILDCAT OR A HURICANE THEN AS U GANE HOURES OF FLYING TIME U GET MOVED UP ON TO A MORE DIFFICULT PLANE TO FLY.
EG=HURICANE TO SPIT TO MOSSI
EG=WILDCAT TO HELLCAT TO CORSAIR

I'm not on my computer at home, so this will be brief. More later....

Each side will have a fixed number of pilots during a War, however, a pilot can fly as many times as he, and his Commander see fit.

I would leave it to each Commander to allow all of his registered pilots the opportunity to take part in the War.

More later fellas. We will have enough battles to give everyone a chance to take part...don't worry.

Hey fellas!

We (The War Department) don't want to restrict the Commanders of each side, any more than we have to. So most decisions as to who will fly what aircraft, which squadron will fly which missions, will be up to the Man, or Woman, you elect to be the Commander of the respective side.

A Commander will be able to appoint as many Captains, etc. he wishes to help him in facilitating his side of the War. That is totally up to him/her.

The War Department will provide the tools to start the War, and we will be there to keep track of it's progress, provide mission builders with the respective Commanders orders followed as to placement of units, etc. As well as provide mission Observers to track damage and settle any disputes.

However, the daily running of your choosen forces side of the War will be left up to your Commander. What input he/she takes from his pilots is up to your Commander.

I would assume since we have such a bright bunch here he would listen carefully to your requests.

I'm surprised we haven't had more nominations for Commanders. I know of several guys I think would do a bang up job! Common boys!!!! Your not gonna be shy are ya?
