i have heard anything about it in sometime. I'm not sure who the last person was to work on it, but i'd love to take a gander at some of the work and see whats up. I have a really full plate but i wouldn't have a problem with fixing a few things on it i guess.

Way back when...there was a Thursday night meeting about getting a team gathered. Many of the current modeling gurus were there- and the chat session was riddled with ICQ bugs. The last person to work on it was jedi...and Jaguar did a lot of the pioneering work with Tail and others. I was a research source and contact with some vets of the Pacific. Since jedi's work, there has been little done to her...Jag posted a couple weeks ago about possibly doing something with her, but I haven't heard much from him-- I think he's still recovering from graduation If someone doesn't start playing around with her again, I guess I'll have to struggle through learning how to model because one way or the other- she will be done. If I have to drag Jaguar et al to my house it will be done

BTW-- just a reference to way back-- I just started a 1:48 scale model of the SBD-5 and there is a window in the floor of the cockpit and it was used for bomb aiming (at least according to the instructions by the company- Accurate Modellers (or is it Miniatures?).

If no one else picks up the ball, I'd be happy to do some more of the 3D work (get flaps/brakes working, do something about flickering textures, etc). I can do some of the FM tweaking as well.

I don't plan on doing anything with the cockpit tho (not my bag I'm afraid) so someone will need to step up to the plate there...

Who's dragging me where?

Funny you should mention this, I was just about to load the SBD up in OPS. I would like to have a meeting on ICQ, or maybe even Nat's chat room, and discuss where everything is on the D.

I'll see if I can package everything up by the end of today. If so, I'll post it on the FShangar.

I have some retarded problem with parts of the plane going all black on me. I have no idea how to fix this, but I can work around it.

The flaps and brakes are MURDER! so if you would like to run with it Jedi, PLEASE be my guest!

{dancing around} ya! I was right! there IS a window and it WAS used for bombing! see, and some people thought I was crazy! HA!

I love what you have done with the Dauntless so far Jedi, the engine looks beautiful!......but..... we gotta have a chat about that gun position.

How's that for an update?

oh, BTW, I had my formal grad ceremony today........... Why are parents so paranoid over pictures?!?!! I'm still seeing spots from all the flashes!

I'd say another chat was in order The thing I did on the gunner's position was more to get something in there to "support" the guns rather than a realistic part. I need a picture of the position and hardware. There's also some difficulties in the way the DOFs are set up to overcome.

Lotsa work still to go on her. A bit "Daunting" to attempt by oneself

just looked at the cockpit...........hhhmmmm, I think the only way to do a good cockpit, is in 3DS Max. with AC3D and OPS it would just take too long. But..... I'll give it a go.

We do need another meeting. When do you want to meet? Where?

I posted the Dauntless on the FS hangar for people to Download.

New functions:
O = Lowers Hook
Q = opens/closes canopy
X = lowers bomb crutch

*Pilot's arm moves to open canopy
*Pilot's head tracks enemy planes

Again, BIG thanks to Jedi for his efforts.

Enjoy guys!

Well, since I know what I'm doing now, I'll remap and reskin it, Jeeves, have you got a pic of the SDB in your tag from other angles? Top, bottom etc?

Anyway, my Chat room is sat there unused, and would be the best place for you to meet IMHO, you wont have all those ICQ bugs, and I've made it private now, meaning you can only get to it from my site, I had problems in the past because it would show up on the list of chat rooms, and ppl would just jump in there.. stopped that now though..

Heya Nat--

Well- no I don't have any other views- that's the only pic. But in the SBD-5 model I am doing now, I can at least tell you the colors used-- and if you need any further pics I can scrape some up for you. The top part of the fuselage is a mix-- uppermost being Nonspecular Sea Blue and the lower part being Intermediate Blue. The very bottom of the fuselage is white.

Jaguar, I downloaded the Dauntless last night. Nice plane, can't wait for the finished product. But I have a minor problem.

The Takeoff Training Mission stops loading when it gets to Objects and CTD's. I went into the mission and saw that she takes off from Saratoga II. I switched to the regular Saratoga and the mission works. What's the difference between the two Saratogas? Where do I look to see if I have Saratoga II? Where do I get it if I don't have it?

Thanks. Again, this is a nice piece of work.

Well guys-- I won't be able to make it today that late-- previous engagement with the wife but you guys should still meet. Besides-- I'm not a modeler anyways...just a mission maker. But if someone would please keep me informed as I have been interested in this project since I first suggested it...man that was a long time ago

As far as the Saratoga goes-- I made that mission so long ag I forgot. I believe at the time that the planes fell right through Pete's carrier's deck and don't remember which was which. I'm so confused...

Anybody have a list of what still needs to be done on the Dauntless? Or should I whip one up?

I don't know what there is for me to do.. the only job that was available was "FM" so I'll do that after the plane gets farther along.. everytime you move almost anything on the plane it affects the FM so doing it this early doesnt make sense.

If someone can send me an updated max file with Jedi's changes, I'll fix the mirrored mapping I did on the fuse though..

Well, for some reason I couldn't access this forum all weekend, so I missed the announcement. I should be able to make any evening US meeting time except Tuesday or Friday this week. After that, out-of-town for about 10 days.

I was going to work on the flaps and dive brakes, but if the plane is going to be re-mapped, I might hold off on that...

OTOH it might make sense to at least get the flaps and brakes and ailerons in their "final" shapes and positions before any re-map. I wanted to take another look at the VStab and forward fuselage where the guns are as well.

We're not gonna try to do REAL holes in the dive brakes are we? I can probably build that, but won't it kill the FR?

That makes 2...

jedi, Nat, Tail? I believe Razor747 and Falck were also on the team at one point- or at least interested. Razer may be out of commission with the computer foul-up...anyone else who wants to see this beautiful plane in my signature fly--show up Friday at midnight at...oops-- did we decide where? Nat's chat? How do we get there again?

By the way-- my plastic model is coming out pretty great-- the window, the guns...all just like the one in the game. I may be able to answer more questions about the cockpit and other parts of the plane from building this small one if anyone wants. Can we model the gunners' station as well? He had some controls there as well.

I'll be out-of-town for 10 days starting Friday morning, so can't attend the meeting

I'll take the dive brakes/flaps if no one else wants 'em. If you want to assign me some 3D stuff or exterior mapping, I can play with that too.

Considering what you've done with her up to now-- I don't think anyone will disagree with me when I say work on whatever part of her you want to. We can work around you--speak up please if you disagree with me.
Between the Corsair and Dauntless-- you are becoming quite the US Pacific plane guru-- I know who to nominate when it comes time to start the Avenger
