HAHA ! OK lets count - 4 people in here (and sure more outside) wich want to see a new bomber. Fine !"I wish I could, but I can`t" - What ? When I started making planes (actually only one is in a respectable state - the I16) I didn't know anything - what to do etc... We got several tutorials and we got this forum. So why don`t you guys team up (or not) and start making the planes you want to see in the game ? It is not soo hard to make a "normal" beta plane. And you'll see after 3 or 4 months of constructing and messing around with your plane that you end up as a "half-guru" of OP ! Stop telleing us things like "I want to see this and that" ! Do it your own ! All you need is alot of time and nerves, compatible modeller software, OPS and some other tools. 1. Get all data (scale plans, technical data, pics etc) you can find for the plane you want to model
2. read the tutorials 3. model your plane 4. import to OPS 5. FM and DM 6. done Remember! I started the same way as you, knowing nothing about OP and that stuff. Now that I´m able to build planes (more or less) all I can say to you is:
"MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN !" dont get me wrong, this is not an advice or a piss on your shoes (still don`t know how to say that in correct english), just a tip LK IP: Logged |

May someone do a japanese skin or skins on any of the German's bombers. I have done my own changes on the Me262 and He162 but on bombers I have no access. The japanese did have their own version of these planes(Me262, He162, so if somebody could this it would be well appreciated. thank you very much[This message has been edited by The MS express (edited 05-18-2000).] IP: Logged |

Diego's done a bunch already. He has a website (Flying Gremlins something or other) I'm sure he can point you in the right direction. Some beautiful work, btw. One of my favourite bookmarks. Werner ------------------ It's coming... The NEW bcatp! Stay tuned for details! IP: Logged |

Anyone who's been toying with the idea of modeling in the sim, should really consider a "simple" modification of an existing plane. It wouldn't be all that difficult to turn a Ju-88 into a Do-17, or the Ju-188 into an He-111.You wouldn't have to go "whole hog" and deliver the bomber equivalent of the P-47 model. All you need to do is get the 3D model somewhere, chop it into its pieces, and then replace the pieces of the existing plane with your new pieces, and "tighten it all up" in OPS. From the inside, sure, it'll still look like a Ju-88, except where you can see the wings or tail. But from the outside, and online, and in the missions and skins guys will do for it, it's a Flying Pencil In the meantime, you've learned how to use your 3D program and OPS. Maybe someone will love your project enough to do a cockpit for you. Maybe you'll pick up a "Team Pencil" along the way and turn out the best bomber ever. But a Do-17 that looks (sorta) like a Do-17, flies like a Ju-88 and feels like one from the pilot seat, is STILL better than a Do-17 at the bottom of somebody else's 10-plane long "to-do" list, eh?

Hey, Jedi, what's wrong with the Jug model? Seriously, though, a lot of people seem to think they need to know it all... 3D modeling, painting, FM hell, DMs and movable objects. That is, of course, totally wrong. If you think you can achieve something in some area, go for it! Volunteer! It's fun. Be fair and say "I can't DM, but damed it, I'm a good 3D modeler", or whatever. Actually, Jedi's example of the jug isn't that bad. We're 4 on it. None of us could've made it single handed. None. Zur's great with FMs. None in the team but him could do it. JTs 3D models and texture mappings are quite something extra. My work on DMs and movable objects probably adds a little spice to the thingie. Dan's incredible feeling for the meaning of every single pixel of those tiny bitmaps makes the world of difference to the final result. I won't speak for the other team members, but if you'd ask me for paintwork, FMs or 3D modeling, I might be able to come up with the equivalent of a paper airplane, but don't count on it. White paint, I can do, but it would probably fly worse than a real thing, and look worse too OK, bottom line again. If you can do something, volunteer. It's fun. You don't need to know it all. Once you're done, you can put your sunglasses on and enjoy being in the spotlight! _ /Bjorn.

I do think that a good way for guys to learn is with ground units, it'll teach them how to use OPS and a 3D prog, and after the initial "what the fuck do I do with all this??" things move along nicely. Although I have to agree with Jedi, making simple alterations to exhisting a/c is a good way to start aswell, I made a basic Do-17 sometime ago before I got into ground units.. and if I knew then what I knew now then it would have been released, after working on ground units and terrain I've learnt alot more about Max and OPS and could go back and work on it... but hey, if I did that who's gonna make the new ground units right? Seriously though, I doubt that I myself will get into a/c, maybe eventually, but doubt it, I just enjoy adding little touches to the game, little bit here, little bit there.. add to the overall feel and use of SDOE ~Nat~ Oh, Laika.. were you pissed at someone or sumthin when you wrote that first post above?? lol I know what you're getting at though, but I think you a/c builders gotta accept a certain amount of that kinda thing..one of the "perks of the trade" I guess, you all do a great job and I know you work with a passion... these Cadets just don't realise they are asking for a bite when this kinda thread gets posted over and over again by the next generation Love you all ~Nat~

Hey don't get me wrong I'm not to bad at modeling my self just look at the site "starfleet battles to star fleet command" and note in the starship protoype yard the 30 or so new ships posted by GHOST , AND thats the point I dont have the time to build aircraft as well ! much as I WOULD LOVE TO ,however I'D hopoed a project like the Luftwaffe CONDOR might be one someone might tre as other then the HE117 it was ONE OF the GERMANS LARGEST WWII PLANES , maybe someone could even kit-bash A B17 TO LOOK LIKE ONE or stretch a JU88 into a HE117?.IP: Logged |

Yeah ! I agree with jedi, björn and nat ! "knowing it all" - hmm I'd say it is not impossible but its a full time job ! I also prefer the way of team work - just needs a good team. So actually for the Pe: Zoy, Diego and Sebulba working on skins (maybe also some inside stuff). Tailslide will (I hope he will ) do the FM stuff. I do the models and most work with OPS (import, Dofs etc). DM ? Not sure might be that I'll do this alone, but if björn (???) would help me out with some thing - not sure. At least I would say that all this work is often fun, sometimes you'll hate it but most of the time it is much fun. Best is when the "crowd" likes the final product.GHOSt - did you start modelling yet ? IP: Logged |

Nat:With regard to ground objects a while ago someone posted a reference to web sites which included some existing 3d meshes for things such as the M16 half track, etc. The scary thing was the number of polys in them. I have access to AutoCad at work, and importing them into that boggled the mind. I really had no idea how to proceed then, or work things with OPS. Ideally I'd like to be able to take the B26B someone is working on and reverse engineer the A20 series and also reverse engineer a Mosquito B.IV, but don't hold your breath... IP: Logged |

Well thankyou Diego...I appreciate that To those that build the planes, ships, tanks & terrain....you bloody amaize me ! Firstly with your creativity and then your patience. I've tried, oh yes I've bloody tried, and have failed miserably. I guess I'll just put on my painting overalls occasionaly and wheel a few aircraft out of the hanger and be content with that. will I try again ? Fuggen oath I will mate! Aaron, 2 things, yes I've seen those models from the net.. scarey!! They would grind SDOE to a halt.. but... there's a prog called progmesh that will reduce the number of polys while keeping a good shape. Also, you should think about starting the way I did, which was "cut and shuts" ie building objects with parts already in the game, like my Armoured Flack panzer, and even the Akizuki. The Akizuki is purely based on the Exeter, with parts added and removed simply by copy and paste, and also parts copied from the Akagi done by mposis. The Yamato is the next step forward where I learnt how to edit the object shape using Max, and once you have that part done, you have the world.IP: Logged | |
