Are you the SDOE Top Gun? Would you like to know where you fit in on a pilot ranking system? Please reply and I will work the details. The info needed is in your Fighter Squadron/ media/pilotstats folder.------------------ Silverfox [This message has been edited by silverfox (edited 05-15-2000).] [This message has been edited by silverfox (edited 05-15-2000).] IP: Logged |

SilverFox, Great Great idea!It sounds like you are trying to set up a way for me to compare my skills against others in SDOE. This would be terrific if I only had to send you 2 to 3 pieces of information from my pilot screen a month via email or something and you could then post a ranking for all the pilots who wanted to participate. Using a ranking system would make it fair for the newer pilots and the experienced pilots if you did something like say... total missions divided by total kills or total missions divided by total buildings destroyed. etc Great Idea, count me in. I think this would be a good way to get the SDOE community more involved and at the same time provide a little more fun and competition. Let me know if I can help in any way. It's no big feat to hand-hack the pilot file. I went from 2.lt to General that way. Not that I recommend it ,nor do I indulge in such alacritous activities, but it can be easily done.IP: Logged |

I guess the other points on this are that the stats only reflect offline play.. it is a neat idea though if ppl didn't hack the results, guess I'd gladly give mine up, but then, I don't take offline flight seriously anymore cause the targets don't wriggle like they do online... damn I hate it when they try to avoid being shot! lolIP: Logged |

Hi guys,I hear what you are saying with the hacking, but most(I think) pilots were not aware of the pilot stats file until now. Well maybe those who are taking part in this competition of sorts could all start with a new pilot on June 1, 2000 and report via email every 50, 100, or 500 missions or at least once a month. If everyone starts from stratch, I think we might know if someone was "cheating". And hey, you could always challenge a suspected cheater to an online duel( best of 5) to see who is the real King of the Hill. I am ready to start. Any other takers to see if they can out fly me? SilverFox?, Electricity?, MH?, Pete?, anyother would be hot shots? heh? Condor out ------------------

With the system deducting -300 for deaths and -100 if you bail (something like that) I would think most people are in the minus thousands score, I know I am! There was talk not long after Sdoe's release of using the Netplay.log in \media to do something like this but it's not edit proof as mentioned.------------------ IP: Logged |

Well we could have the 'best score closest to zero'! Oh yeah and the other problem with the netlog is you might shoot some guy up pretty well but if you leave the game early you won't get a kill if that guy eventually goes down or someone finishes him off for you. A scoreboard built into the lobby would be a good idea.

Ok, I think we have enough to go on here.Think this option over and let me know if it sounds fair and easy enough for one person to manage just to get this all started. NOTE: ALL PARTICIPATING PILOTS WOULD BE ON THERE HONOR TO NOT CHEAT AND TO REPORT THEIR SCORES HONESTLY. There is only 6 of us so far so I think this would be possible. Each player would create a new pilot with a score of zero. Each pilot would fly the exact same mission offline 10 times. Scores to report could be, # of planes shot down both fighter and bomber, # of buildings destroyed or other ground objects destroyed, # of boats destroyed, # of successful landings - ie the landing was survivable and you could walk away, # of bail outs, # of times you were killed in action. Some of this will depend upon the specific mission. The mission could be emailed by anyone of us to all the participants. We could take turns deciding what mission to use for the current week. Desired simrate would be set to the default of 20. HUD would be allowed to insure the enemy could be found and engaged. The ability to jump planes would be off. The skill slider bar would be set to full. It would be nice(not required at all) to use the planes with more robust damage models where the engine catches fire and the pilot can be killed. I think this includes some of the wwi planes and the F4U and P47 currently. Padlock would be optional. (I think it makes things harder) Scores would be reported and refreshed weekly. I know the simplest way to keep score would be to just use the pilot score but I think pilots should get credit for a completed landing. We could figure out how much to credit for a landing, for a fighter kill, bomber kill, etc later. I sure I have left some details out but its a start. Condor out ------------------

OK-- this seems like a good plan-- I see how you can get credit for bomber and fighter kills... but how would you know that someone landed? Since it's offline...is it because of a positive score? I think you can end a game before landing and still get credit and a score for kills...so does this rely completely on the honor system? Looking forward to being graded on skill and not on how smooth your internet connection is...not to mention the online damage bug. What about credit for ground units destroyed...is this restricted to fighters? Maybe some fighter/bomber missions...and some bomber missions. Test every level of skill? ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless!

Hi Jeeves,Thanks for the reply. Yes, this is all on the honor system since we are doing this offline. Landing does not affect your score like you said and I think it should. Yes, all types of mission would be used. When it is your week to pick, you can email a fighter or bomber mission or a ground pounding mission. It is really up to you. Please let me know any other suggestion you have. Thanks again for the info. Also when would you be ready to start participating in this? I am hoping to start by June 1, 2000. I guess it all depends on what is involved... is it just a matter of downloading a mission and taking a week to play it 10 times? If so-- where do we get the missions and who makes them...and where do we send the PilotStats to? Or is there more to it? If it's just as I said- then I could do that in a week and am interested. If there's more to it...than what?------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless!

Hi Jeeves,Lets say for the first week, it was your turn to pick the mission. You would create a new mission or pick an existing one you liked. You would then email it to the rest of us. There is only about 6 of us so I don't think this will get too bad, but if it does maybe we can make a distribution list. Then we all would take a week to play it 10 times and record the scores we would have decided on like # of landings, # of kills, etc. We all would then email the scores to the person designated to compile the rankings and then that person could post the results on the fsic. The person compiling the rankings I think should be SilverFox, since it was his original idea. For now we could post the rankings in the after action section. That is really about it. I am trying to start out as simple as possible. There are a lot of variations to try later as this process gets going. Army puke Since you would create a new pilot each week, your score would start out at zero each time. This way your "test pilot" could remain intact with a score of -15982. ------------------

I thought of an idea...a way to make sure that honesty prevails (not that I doubt you guys )-- how about if a person gets a pilot file assigned to them...so like if this stays to under 10 people- either whoever is keeping the stats or whoever picks the missions makes a pilot for each participant that they MUST use. Good idea? Just a thought...------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless!

Hi Jeeves and Army,I think that idea would still allow for someone to edit the pilot file and change some stats in it and/or the person could just rename any other pilot file(with a better score) he wanted to that assigned pilot name. Also not all things get credit such as a successful landing. Anyway, I am really not worried about cheating right now. If someone doesn't believe another pilots stats, well then an online challenge should route out any cheaters. Making up and keeping track of what pilot is assigned to what name is also getting away from keeping this as simple as possible. I think each pilot should use there current pilot name(callsign) plus some identifier. I would create a new pilot based off of my current callsign(Condor) to Condor_KOH or something close to that. "KOH" would stand for King of the Hill. I will set up a practice run for this process including a mission and instructions on what scores to keep if you guys are willing to help weed out the bugs. Just let me know. I am really anxious to try this process out and get it up and running. I think this could be alot of fun for everyone. Condor out ------------------
