Hello All!I just started browsing the Internet sites and this forum for information on OpenPlane. I've been working on a simulation called Stormbird for the past couple of years. Stormbird is a simulation modeling the several variants of the Me 262. We also plan to incorporate expansion packs. I've played SDOE several times since the release but never considered using the OpenPlane technology since we were already in development on Stormbird. We've had some unavoidable delays but we hope to continue before the end of the year. Because of these delays, we'll need to start over with a new team. I've started an e-mail conversation with Inertia Games about using OpenPlane in Stormbird. Since it's E3 this week... we'll get more involved next week. I'm also in the market for a new development team. I've got several talented people helping me with Stormbird...including GTT and several individuals. I think OpenPlane is perfect for my vision of a open flight simulation. I'm very excited about learning more... I like the idea of importing aircraft, ships, and other vehicles for use in different simulations. I look forward to visiting this forum often and discussing the use of OpenPlane. I'm considering releasing a wireframe from my site for someone to incorporate into SDOE. If anyone is interested, just let me know. I'm very curious how long it would take. If you need more info on Stormbird, just visit my site at http:// www.crosswindsims.com. The site is a couple of years old but we're working on new one at this moment for release in a few weeks. We'll also have a discussion board on Stormbird features including the incorporation of OpenPlane. Thanks for reading this far... ------------------ Brent Ward Crosswind Simulations http://www.crosswindsims.com

to be very honest, from what I've seen in SDOE, and made for SDOE, I could not imagine buying a sim now that didn't have it, for all the little bugs we get with online play through it, this is for me the way to go, see, the Sim isn't then only a game, played finished and put back on the shelf, look at if here.. the members have doubled since I joined in January.. this is a Hobby, this keeps it alive and popular, and atracts more users.. all be it slowly.Making a Sim a hobby has got to be the way to sell these sims these days, you know how hard it is to market a sim, they generally aren't popular, but I bet we all have Quake or Unreal.. ppl get off on shootem ups.. Give a sim a life.. let it breath and evolve, and it will never go out of date thanks to the excellent work done by ppl like those on this board. Great work done by all here.. and any sim that would be Openplane Based will always get a vote from me. ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. Hi man. I also have been checking out that sim and waiting for it, Its looking like it could be really cool. K heres the deal the way I see it. I think the only way you should do it is to license the source for the openplane engine but only with the option to improve and tweak it yourself. Like some people do with some of the First person shooters. There is some flaws right now in SDOE that HAVE to be repaired. No question. I would suggest that you both take some time to fly online with us as research (boy thats hard eh? To see some of the bugs and all of its goodness. Just to make sure its what you want. Then I would say you read up on the whole openplane thing and get one of your guys to put a plane into SDOE. Don't get one of our guys but do it yourself or one of your 3D guys. The reason I say that is cause then you can fully evaluate the procedure. I think only by doing those 2 things can you fully evaluate openplane as a major component of your sim. Just some advice. SDOE and openplane rock. I just want you to be able to tweak it to your needs. I wouldn't recommend using the engine if you couldn't do any programming work on it. I'm very excited about this though. Could be great. THe more openplane sims there are the better for us flyers and tweakers. IP: Logged |

Brent,This is very good news, and I'm glad to hear that Stormbird is still in the works (sorry to hear about all the setbacks though). I think I'd have to agree with Spanky, in the fact that the game engine does need some work to really bring it up to an exciting level (it IS a great engine but many things could and should be added to make it truely incredible). Your interest in it may in fact be the fuel that's needed for the fire (so to speak) to get more work done on the game's engine and even open up the source coding ideas that have been floating around here. I really hope that all will go well for you, that you'll like what you see, and have the talent amongst your group to help take OpenPlane to the next level. You'll find lots of high calibur people here implementing many great ideas. Lots of creative energy is always flowing here with people doing something or another (improving FMs, adding new aircraft, ground vehicles, ships, painting incredible textures) to add to the siming experience that IS Fighter Squadron. Welcome! I hope you find what you need here to help Stormbirds' release. IP: Logged |

Thanks for all the e-mails and replies. I'm going to spend some time this weekend using the OpenPlane studio on aircraft and other objects. That Yamato sure kicked my butt. I prefer to be behind the guns on that ship.
