Spanky here..
Ok 2 part and off topic but I needed some opinions and this is the only forum most people visit. I'm in a panic ok
K so I mentioned last night online that my CPU fan was being noisy, and I was thinking that might me that its going to fail soon.
BOY WAS I WRONG
Turns out I was in there this morning and its my hard drive. Its got a high pitched sound to it. Even when its just sitting there. Its not only when i access it, but all the time.
SOOoo... I'm guessing its about to give up soon? or what?
Really it doesn't matter, It has to be replaced cause the noise gives me a headache and its only 3 gigs which is pretty small these days.
I'm going to back up onto CDRW today and I have a 1gig that I can use. Can you imagine that? A 1! GIG!!!!. LOL
Just enough space for win98 and SDOE LOL.
So onto the next problem.
I wanted to swap my 266 cpu for that 333 that siggi nicely gave me. It turns out this board will run a 333. Under a reserved jumper setting.
So I poped it in with out the Fan since I didn't have one just to make sure it booted and played about 15 secs of SDOE to see the FPS (A leettle higher) and shut her down.
THen i pulled out the allen keys and pulled the sink/fan off the 266.
WELL. It comes off but the paste is dry and the screws are striped.
So they wouldn't tread into teh other CPU cause there is no threads in the holes on the CPU.
I got it on as best as I could. and its running. HEHEH. Wondering how long for.
So if I buy a cheap fan like this:
Ball bearing cooling fan for Intel Slot 1 Katami & Coppermine processors up to 750MHz.
3 Pin motherboard connector.
1 Year Warranty.
$12.99
How does it go on? It looks identical to the one I have now. Maybe I just need some new screws? It seems to me that making new threads with the screws could give off little slivers of alum from the CPU and I can't see that being good.
I don't need somthing crazy for overclocking, since this is as fast at this board goes. But I just want somthing that works.
