As I was playing a little yesterday I realized something: the machineguns and cannons mounted on all the planes don't have the same distruction power. I mean, when a weapon has the same caliber in different planes sometimes it doesn't work in the same way, i.e. the 4 cannons of the f4ub corsair are more powerful than the 2 mounted on the spitfire, i broke in two parts the ship of a zero with a half second ripple with the corsair, while i needed more time (and ammo) to do it with the spit...u think I'm wrong (or that I'm a bad shooter :-) ), or maybe this problem really exist?

dare I even state the obvious...4 cannons will naturally do more damage than 2 Not only that, other than the cannon on the spit, the .303 MG suck, you might aswell be using a blow pipe! (unless ofcourse you get lucky) The number of times I've taken masses of hits from a spit 1a and laughed it off, knowing it's only 303, are too maney to mention. ~Nat~ Other than this, the cannons do the same damage per individual gun, meaning, a single 20mm cannon does the same no matter what a/c is using it. Spanky here... Yep, I find the 30mm cannon on the Bf109F? INSANE. One quick burst, which is like 1 or 2 rounds will take the wing right off a lanc. Nicely placed rounds but still

One other thing to keep in mind is that not all cannons are created equal. Two "cannons" may have very different warheads, weights and firing speed. A cannon with a high firing rate will generally do more damage than one with a low rate, but even that may be offset if the low rate cannon has a larger warhead. IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Yeah I was going to mention that. Just for fun me and Mad Dog gave the zero 500lbs of warhead in its cannons once. Boy was that crazy. It was still a 20mm though. Guess it was some pretty dense explosivs. Guess the plane isn't affected by ammo wieght either. NOw that would be interesteing. Not only have your wings get lighter from using up all the fuel in your wing tanks but have the rate of roll increase cause you just lost 50 lbs of ammo out of both wings in a big fight. really, that would only add to the realism. or am i just crazy? The cannon on the F4U-4 are the same as the ones in the Spit IX. Same rate of fire, ammo weight, range, explosive weight, etc. I just copied the data from the Spit into the .ppf file for the Hog.Come to think of it, maybe I should've used the data from the cannon in the P-38 instead. That was the "American" Hispano vs the "British" Hispano. Not sure if the game reflects any difference, but I think they were slightly different in real life... Of course, if you're firing 4 instead of just 2, that's pretty significant I noticed that the 190 will do a pretty quick number on anything it hits as well. As for the 30mm on the 109K, just ONE shell from that can dismember a fighter-type aircraft. Some pretty scary pictures of that floating around the web. ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

The power of the guns is under your control just as much as the modelling is.Remember this shot? http://www.parsoft.com/games/SDOE/HistoryInPictures/ahhhhhh.jpg It's part of our history in pictures... http://www.parsoft.com/games/SDOE/HistoryInPictures/HistoryInPictures.html IP: Logged |

if you notice... the warhead strength on the Yamato's 18" guns is 768... I figure that SDOE works in Lbs so this should be correct... and the motto is... don't get hit by 18" guns.. lol.. seriously though, it's up to the maker what wrhead size you want and therefore what damge your guns are gonna do Exeter goes down after 1 burst from Yamato.. but then, thats probably true to life in anycase.. the thing thats buggin me right now though is gun range.. I set it.. but do you think I can hit targets at 40,000 yards? Nope.. lol There seems to be a maximum range to guns.. I can fire up a distant hillside and watch the fall of shot, moving up a little each time.. but I've not been able to hit the buildings at the top of it yet.. the rounds just vanish.. IP: Logged |
