Havent' got the bomb bouncing off the water yet (bounces off the ground OK tho) If I get it working I'll post the Lancaster (Special) for download soon. If not, you'll have to either learn to lob that sucker in there, or maybe, drop this on it instead...
The Grand Slam seems to work OK. Just don't hang around after you drop it Might have to take some of the explosive out... ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

Cool! The 10000 pound grandslam bomb must make a huge explosion! I know there are some submarine pens in the dover mission below the southernmost french airfield (I forget its name). Maybe they could be altered for destruction. There are plenty of dams for the bouncing bomb. Could you alter it for the mossie as well! Anyway good work!IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. Jedi- Just had an idea here. Is it ok if I use one or both of those pics in a little project I'm working on? I can't see why not but I have to ask.

I've been looking forward to them two kites ever since I heard the word 'flight sim' the firts time. 'Daddy, can you fly a Lanc I special in Flightsim 4.0?' Oh, and by the way, Acehalcrow: The Tallboy is the 10000 pounder. (12000, actually) The Grand Slam weighed 22000 tiny pounds.IP: Logged |

Hehe well right now, I'm a bit confused about how the bombs are set up. The Tallboy weighs 20000 pounds in the .sm file I was sent, but only 12000 pounds in the .ppf file for the plane, and has 4000 pounds of explosive weight. I made the Grand Slam weigh 22000 pounds in both the .sm file and the .ppf file, with 12000 pounds of explosive weight. All I know is that if you drop it on an airfield, there IS no airfield, and the shockwave will disintegrate the Lanc at 10000 feet! I begin to see why they put a parachute on the A-bombs Of course the real Grand Slam was designed to go supersonic on its descent, penetrate through hardened targets like sub pens, and blow stuff up from within. Be neat if we could do THAT! I have an idea for "bouncing" the dam bomb that should work, but I'm having a little trouble making the airfoil on the bomb work well enough to implement the bouncing part. I'll release the plane and bombs one way or the other within a week or two. Still need to do the 617 Sq paintjob, and I might throw together a 617 Squad file as well (could use the squadron crest if anyone has it--hint). I can always put out the "working" bomb when I get the bugs worked out. I probably won't do the "Highball" weapon for the Mossie unless I can get the bouncing part working tho.

Jedi, this is the 617sq scheme that I did a while back for the B1 special. It's not that great but does the job. It's on 'The Hangar'. ------------------ Yardstick painted this

Hey-- there's a pic of the one and only skin I did in SDOE That Tallboy skin was made from Dole's original template...my favorite part is the message on the side! Jedi- as far as the weight issues go, Jag and I played around with the Tallboy for about 2 hours one night (actually- Jag did most of it!)-- and we got it working-- but I believe I had to tone down the warhead power a bit-- even below 14000 feet- you are courting disintegration with that baby- but it does quite a job on the dam as you have seen if you played with part 2 or part 3 of my Dover campaigns- there are some Tallboy missions there.------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless!

Every one seems to forget that the only reason big bombs desintegrate planes at altitudes that are low is because big bombers didnt drop bombs from low altitudes. Most heavy bombing is done at 15,000 feet or more.IP: Logged |

Yardstick--Nice one! I'll snag that and include it with the download, if that's OK. That's the Grand Slam scheme I believe. The Dam Buster scheme is not much different from what comes with the stock plane. The model is sort of 2-planes-in-1. The underside of the fuselage is chopped up, with different hardware for the two missions. I made the different fuselage bottoms as the two "pylons" for the bombs, so if you pick a Grand Slam or Tallboy loadout, you get one underside, if you pick Dam Buster loadout, you get the other. The Grand Slam plane is also not supposed to have the nose turret. I might see if attaching the turret to the pylon works, so that selecting Dam Buster gets you a nose turret, but Grand Slam doesn't. I guess I could just make it two different planes... ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

Spanky here... COOL. I think part of the problem with the bombs taking out airplanes is just the area effect of the bomb, (Which I'm pretty sure is definable) Is too large. Even a bomb that size. SHould it be able to tear a plane apart at 14000 feet? I'm not sure just wondering.

Jedi, you're welcome to use the 617sq scheme if you want. The default Lancaster scheme is OK althouugh Bomber Command's standard scheme for the upper surfaces was dark earth / mid green (I forget the exact name for the green paint). ------------------ Yardstick painted this

Jedi: ahem. YOU'RE THE MAN!!!!!! I LOVE the bouncing bomb!!! That's TOTALLY what I need for the Dam Busters Online Mission Pack I'm working on, in fact, I'm going to delay further work on it until you have a working beta ready to roll (bounce? ). That is AMAZING!!! (Thank You)^10 Werner ------------------ It's coming... The NEW bcatp! Stay tuned for details! IP: Logged |
