OK, the way things work.. if you download and install a plane you find on the net that is already a part of the Plane Pack, the installed plane will take priority in the game, meaning thats the one you will use and not the Plane Pack version... I strongly advise against this!!

Only download aircraft that you are sure are not already in the current Plane Pack, or else online mismatches will be yours forever more, and you'll very likely be downloading an older version than is in the pack anyway.

Currently, my advice is to have 5.3b installed, then download the Contest Plane Pack and install that, then you pretty much have all the newest planes, except for the Goth 229, He162, and Ta152 (if memory serves me right)

The downloads should have a Readme file with them, but if not, generally you unzip the download into your Media folder, this should then create a subfolder called aircraft and then inside of that, the folder for the aircraft that you downloaded with subfolder to it for the textures and possibly also sounds.

Multiplayer missions should be placed in Media\missions\multiplayer

Single Player/Offline missions should be downloaded to the same folder, but then into the corresponding subfolder for the mission area. i.e. if you downloaded a mission for Africa, place it in media\missions\africa

Hope I got this clear.. lol, it's 11:30am and I aint slept yet..

Guys what about a link in Hotlist that shows the new guy how to get setup? Anyone with a 'how to' doc and a permanent webpage?
Something that descibes what Nat's gaggling about and will lead the new guy step by step as he/she grabs the files.

We should also maintain some sort of listing of what planes are where. Here's my take:

Plane Pack 5.3 includes...

All the original planes + mods (P-51, A-36 Apache, P-38, 3 Spitfires, 4 FW-190s, Typhoon, Lancaster, 2 B-17s, Ju-88A, Me-262, Mosquito).

Contest Pack includes...

4 Bf-109s, F4U-1D, P-47, Hurricane, Wildcat, Yak-3, P-80, Fokker D7 and D8, Albatros, Bristol F2B, A6M5 Zero.

Other "must haves" not included in any pack but available...

Polikarpov I-16, F4U-1, F4U-4, RN Corsair Mk 2, P-51B, P-38(mod), SE-5A, Nieuport 17, Sopwith Camel, Fokker Dr I, Ju-88C, Ju-88G, Ju-188, He-100, He-162, Gotha Go-229, Ta-152, Huey gunship, F-14, Bossie the Cow

Unfinished but still "flyable" betas: Ki-61, SBD Dauntless, F-15, Zeppelin, V-1 buzz bomb.

Add-on terrains? Island, Tundra, Rhineland Winter, Snowy Dover, Beta Pacific.

Did I miss some?

If it doesn't take you a week to download it all, you're probably missing something

Hudson slowwwwwww downnnnnnn here buddy. The bottom line is that you want the patch 1.5, PP5.3 with the two patches 5.3a , 5.3b and Nations 1.0 and the contest pack. Nations will let you fly as a Russian, Italian or Japanese. Nations will also give you access to fly the Russian planes. Italy at this time doesn't have their own planes and the Japanese plane is kept in the German folder for now. Make sure you read the readme files and install in the right area and I would go slow on the add ons. Maybe install one thing at a time and start up sdoe and make sure you can fly a mission before installing the next one.
Cheers

One more thing, if I were you I'd install the contest pack last because it will install the right file called "startup.ppf", if you try to fly a new plane that is not in the startup file you will ctd and you'll be asking youself why did that happen? Just watch out, or better yet just see what new lines the startup file has and add them to your startup file.
Himdog out again

The Zero doesn't have to fly as German either. Somewhere, when Nation's was first released, Jeeves posted detailed instructions on how to get the Zero under Japan.

The 5.3a patch is not needed as all of its updates are contained in the 5.3b patch as well.

Putting the Zero into Japan is not all that difficult. (Maybe I should wait until I get home to make sure I don't miss anything, but here's the basics)...

You need to move the folder that contains the stats.bmp and cutaway.bmp files from the Germany folder to the Japan folder. I think those are in the Media/Gui/Art/Hangar stream of folders. Then you need to change the two lines in the loadout.ppf file for the Zero that specify the location of cutaway.bmp and stats.bmp to point to the new location (just change the word Germany to Japan). THEN all you need to do is build a mission (or change your existing missions) so that the Zero's squadron is one of the Japanese squadrons in the mission builder. Don't forget to change the squadron in the Zero's "hangar mission" in the Media/Hangar folder.

And then all you need to do is learn to understand Japanese

jedi,

With all due respect I don't recommend the Zero loadout change at this time. At least until we all do it, this will cause mismatches online.
I know cause thats the way I had it set up.
When we get all the theaters in order and get all the AC in there respective country I don't think this should be done, with all due respect...thanks

jedi- you had it right on the nose (you may have to create a Japan folder though as it doesn't come with the game). ASAIK, Razer was planning with others for a new release of the Zero and Tony with the loadouts updated so hopefully that will eliminate mismatches if everyone updates.

OK good point--you don't want to mess around with your loadout.ppf file if you want to play online.

I can post instructions on how to make a "secondary" Zero for offline use in "Japan" if anyone wants.

Spanky here...

HEHE.

I really thing one HUGE zip that has EVERYTHING in it would be great but thats not happening.

Maybe a install program that asks for and installs everything in the order they need to be installed?

With an updateable INI. that you can download?
