Is there a converter out there somewhere that can go from MDL to OBJ format (or even 3DS)? And not Quake MDL's but MS Flight Sim type. I was just looking around at Flightsim.com and there are MANY gorgeous, already built airplanes that would be incredible in SDOE with some work (ok, a lot of work as we all know).Just wondering if I missed this if there is such a converter. If not, Bryan, Hippie, or Kopper up to the challenge? :P IP: Logged |

I'm sure Kopper can pull out a rabbit out of his 17 years programming experience.

Pete, I tried asking around for that kinda stuff a while back...no luck. There are some aircraft builders at the forum at www.avsim.com/ffg They have some max users and they may be able to find out about the .mdl stuff. Last I heard, one of the memebers had a beta program that would convert from .max to .mdl but the guy wouldnt give it to anyone. IP: Logged |

MDL2FSD works fine for Quake MDL files, but not CFS ones. There is a model viewer posted on Simviation's site, but no exporting is supported. If somebody knows how to crack this, I would love a converter. I read somewhere that CFS files have some form of header for the animation. Perhaps this is the problem?IP: Logged |

Well, you know that FS Design Pro program for Flight Sim aircraft and shapes, I'm considering buying it (online for $59 bucks) and checking it out. But since I'd be stuck with only MDL files I'm thinking against it now. Last night I almost did purchase it though.I hope someone has something in the works. It would be a Godsend. IP: Logged |

if it could export to a useful 3d format DXf, 3DS or suchlike, then it could be of use, otherwise I wouldn't bother.Any programmers out there looking for a challenge? There is a program called MDLVUE which views CFS type MDL files. This may make a good starting point. I only wish I knew how..... IP: Logged |

I don't know if you can do anything with this Pete? http://www.it.uc.pt/~luis/files/m2b.html I've also seen some kind of converter for CFS scenery files to SCASM. Can anything be done with that? I don't know anything about that stuff, I just like searching and research. ------------------ [This message has been edited by dauntless851 (edited 05-06-2000).] IP: Logged |

Actually, I've got Aircraft Factory, it is very difficult to use but .afp files, which are ASCII can be hepful for the geometry of the aircraft. .afp files are not as easy to find as mdl files, but they can provide a basic geometry, if, for instance, interfaced with ac3d.
