Just wanted to drop a note and let everyone know some things that Spyder figured out about online play, and getting missions when they're sent.

When hosting, if you're having trouble getting one person the mission, don't try sending it to them more than once. Rather, switch to a different mission, let things settle down for a sec, and then go back to the mission you want to fly.

Then send the mission for that person that's having trouble getting it if they've still got a red "x", and they'll get it almost every single time.

If you send it to them more than once without them ever seeing it, there's a real good chance you're going to make them DT.

For some reason, leaving that particular mission, and then coming back to the one you want to play, it seems as though either they really did get it in the first place and the farking program just doesn't realize it, or it clears the throat so to speak of the program so the player can get it ok the second time.

Also be advised, if you are in a game, you've selected a squadron, and the host dumps you out to something else and comes back...well, that's why.

Instead of typing, "WTF?!?" or "HEY, WHAT'S GOING ON ASSHOLE!," you can type, "Gosh, we really appreciate you working so hard to make sure everyone has a good time! My, that Spyder's a sharp one!"

Really, everyone's been pretty damn good about stuff lately. Kudos to all. Just wanted to let folks know what was going on in case some thought that the odd host here and there had lost their minds, and let aspiring hosts-to-be learn a little trick the 'ol Arachnid figured out for us.

Additionally: When you do join a mission, please be there while people choose squadrons, change missions back and forth as described above, send missions, etc. If you do have to drain the main vein or grab a cold one real quick, no problem, just let things get settled in right quick, make sure you don't have your green ready light punched, and let us know what's going on so we don't type a bunch of messages trying to figure out why you're not responding.

We don't want you to fly thirsty or squirming, and if you at least wait until we've all got our seats, no one's going to lose sleep if we have to wait 60 seconds for you to run to the fridge or the 'loo. (Hip European Reference.)

One last point: If you get in the lobby, and there's a 2 or 3 player game up, and there's like 11 people in the game, it's because the host is looking through an incredible mess of missions, trying to find something groovy for all. Think of that as kind of a sign that someone is scrolling through a huge mess of crap, and probably can't even see anything you're typing.

Also be aware that head counts are quite dynamic in the game rooms, and the host is usually trying their best to find a good mission that will have the least AI in it.

I really tried to clean out and straighten up my multiplayer folder after the 5.3a came out, but after the new modifications, it changed everything again, and now I'm back to square one as far as finding good competitive missions, so wish me luck, and pray for me regularly.

As I said before, seems like everyone has been a pretty darn good neighbor lately, and not only will this make hosting for regulars like myself and the Spyderman more fun, it also might make help remove some of the "Mystique of Hosting" for others, so a lot of folks can join in the Hosting Fun.

Good post Mk, the mission swapping is messy but it helps that damn dt bug when it comes around. I think it actually writes to the users hard drive the first time but something isn't reported properly.
The best approach might be to get everyone to not jump into a squad straight away, wait till everyone has been cleared of their red x.
Of course the rush to get your favourite plane before the next guy will cause nervous breakdowns!

Forgot to add, sometimes RW goes down, it's actually hosted by the makers of RW so don't despair as someone will put up a new IP to join if that's the case.
The reason we use the Resounding RW channels is to take the load off someone's computer. Hosting an Rw channel and flying a mission isn't recommended unless you have one of those... errm ropes that tie up the P&O Princess.....a cable! that's it.

Switching back and forth worked again last night like a charm.
