I was invited to be the guest speaker for a 429 Sqn reunion this past weekend in Trenton, Ont.

It was amazing to sit face to face with the WWII aircrews from 429 Sqn and here some of their war stories. It was the kind of experience that changes a person forever!

Kopper,

That must have been quite an experience. I'm sure it increased your appreciation for what those guys went through. Did you find that most were willing to discuss their wartime experiences?

P.S. What does the 429th fly these days?

429 Sqn is a transport sqn and flys the C130 Hercules.

Many of them were willing to talk in detail to me. I have spoken to many of them over the phone plus I was the guest speaker so they saw the work I had put into the research.

However, they are guarded in who they talk to about what. WE had a problem with a series about 10 yrs ago called 'The Valour and the Horror' which said Bomber Command was killing women and children. So they don't trust anyone and it takes a long time to gain their trust.

Several of the vets were still cautious with me until they heard my presentation on Saturday evening.
