No offense SV Had to do that to show the size. It's not 100% but darned close.

I finally got around to starting my plane of all planes, the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. This is an early pic (missing rudder and elevators in it still among other things) and it has a ways to go, but it WILL rock!

Planned goodies...
-Working visor (nose raises up)
-Working aft cargo doors
-Working Ramps (front/aft)
-Working Crew Entry Door/Ladder
-Complex landing gear that also Kneels so ramps can be in drive-in mode)
-Slats and spoilers
-Properly extending flaps
-MAYBE rotating fans in the engines
-Horizontal stab Pitch Trim (whole surface moves).

And whatever else I can think of. It's really just a geewhiz plane but I HAD to do it, since they've been such a major part of my life up to now. I hope it'll be a DOF masterpiece (I love lots of moving gagets)

Of course texture mapping is still a ways off too so don't pay attention to the strange colors.

There are a couple other pics in that directory, so have a look around.

I was just thinking it shouldn't be too hard to have the aft cargo doors open in flight and paratroopers jump out. I'll get the doors working if anyone would like to figure out a way to use jumpers in place of bombs. Could be pretty neat.

Mad Dog here,

You took the words right out of my mouth man!! I've wanted to see some paratroopers forever!!

If we can't have them out of a c-47, this will do just fine! I absolutely love the big planes and this one tips the scales!

Cant wait to see it launch the SE5A out the back. I suspect that in reality the slipstream would pull the SE5A apart.

Of course, the next question is, does SDOE have an airfield long enough to handle that beast.

I remember years ago the C5A (yes, A not B) would fly into Moffet NAS. They had to pass right over my HS. Huge monsters looked like they were hanging on a thread.

Looks good Pete... (when do I get a copy )

Thank you very much, the PBY will be able to get there on her own. Hey Pete! Whats the interior width of the cargo bay? Wingspan on the PBY was 104' It would also give something for the fighter jocks to fly through.... ;0

That looks cool Pete. I hope you can snag some engine sounds from a real one. Are you still close to Travis?

I remember at Altus, when they used to do full throttle engine runs.....man that was loud. Especially when they were parked right in front of the tower!! lol

Thanks everyone

OH YEAH, I got sounds About 5 years ago I emailed Paul Morton at Parsoft (their sound guy) and told him I'd be happy to get him some actual C-5 sounds (Idle, at max power, and the APU startup sounds) and send them in a zip file to him for the C-5 they had in A-10 Cuba! Plus I had them on a website for a long time also. So, those sounds are now being used in the A-10 Cuba! Mac patch (didn't make it into the PC one although it's easy to just wav's in the directory), and then the guys at Looking Glass Studio's used them in Flight Unlimited 2. I sent them to Flightsim.com also and I think about 4000 people have downloaded them, plus many more at AOL where I sent them also back in early '96. So they've been getting lots of use

Of course they will be in the ZIP file of this plane when I release the first beta. The sound make's it really nice. I hope in the next patch there will be support for multiple sounds so I'd be able to use the idle sound at idle and then work up to the max power sound at full power.

As far as driving a plane or carrying objects onboard, I'm not sure if it'll work but I'll see what I can do. Also even with flying a small biplane through the cargo bay, it's a very tight fit and I don't think that'd work either. I'd have to oversize it some.

Right now the FPS isn't bad, but wait until I get the 28 tires on! I'm going to have to carefully adjust the lod distances so it won't bog down. Right now it's close to 60 fps most of the time on a PII 450.

With it's flaps and slats the C-5 (in real life) can take off in very short distances when light (I've done it many times). 3,000 feet isn't at all out of the question. The runways in SDOE are no problem.

Pete, would it be theoretically possible to fly tanks across the channel and simulate a modern-day invasion force? That would be sweet! Briefing: Bomb Ticehurst flat and then CAPTURE it!!! AWESOME!!! So what happened to the Liberator, is in in holding pattern or scrapped?

Well, what I could do is include a couple tank shapes as part of the actual model. Have the plane land, open up the visor and the ramp folds down and there is a tank sitting there onboard getting ready to offload. There are many possibilities here. I could even do one of those moving DOF things where after the ramp is down a tank (or whatever vehicle) drives slowly down on to the ground and stops. What to do from there is iffy, like have it just disappear to simulate an offload and it drove away, or have it go back inside, simulating swapping out vehicles.

I'm open for ideas but yes Werner, this could be done rather easily!

hhhmmm.... what you could do.... make dropable tanks.. parachutes.. edit the bomb SM with the shape of a tank, remove the explosive, attach a chute, and drop it as bombs out the back door.. let it parachute to the ground as an airdrop.. now that would be something... but hey, we'll let you finish the plane before you have to do that part lol

I know these things dont belong in the same decade, but you could have it where you drive the Panzer up the ramp, switch so your flying the Galaxy, rase your ramp and take off! Or is this possible?

I kinda had the same idea for the B-17. Pull out all the guns and have a key set to open the crew door. your crew starts out as guys next to the plane (this would only work online), then they walk into the plane, take their positions, (the 50 cal guns become unhidden, and BAM! you got a LIVE gunner crew on yout B-17!

I hope it works for you pete!! Lookin SWEET BTW!!! I'm gonna haveto put taxi wheels on my Huey so we can load her up!

OK, after this you can do a C130. I like the idea of dropping tanks and such. It would probably need to span missions but would give invasion capavility (as noted earlier). OK, in keeping with the era, how about the DC3 (I forget the military designation...) We have a funky truck, how about a funky tank?

I LOVE this game, the options are so endless...

Pete, I will try and help with a paratrooper loadout.

Thanks Raider.

A C-130? We'll see. It's a strong possibility as I have a partially built one now. It would be interesting to have in the game as well. Maybe with all the modern stuff I've done we could make a modern scenario eventually. I know I'd love it.

Thanks for all the nice replies. The C-5 certainly got a better response from the community than my F-14 did
