Gidday all!
Last night I was reading Willi Messerschmitt’s biography and am up to the part about when he designed the Me-321 and 323 gliders. It explained how relatively maneuverable the gliders were, which gave me the thought about how neat it would be to have them in the sim. Obviously, the 323 (powered version) would be the only practical version to make now (due to being a glider). BUT as there is a He-111 in the works, theoretically, it should be easy enough to put two of them (He-111) together to make the He-111 Zwilling! It is here that my questions arise:
Would it be somehow possible for one or two aircraft to tow another into the air, detach from the ‘towee’ and continue on their way whilst the ‘towee’ (in this case a Me-321) continues on it’s own way, making a controlled landing?
This may be too difficult for AI to handle, but think of the multiplayer value!
Two He-111 Zwillings take off with a Me-321 in tow. Their objective is to drop off two or three Funky Flak vehicles that would then continue on to complete their mission (shoot down all enemy aircraft). Players (other than those flying Zwillings 321 and Flak) must shoot down towers and gliders etc.

Is this a feasible idea? If so, it sure would make for a very interesting game! What other sim could boast He-111 Zwilling AND Me-321, 323?

It's a really cool idea but for now I cannot see it working. I tried and tried to make a catapult on a carrier to launch planes with but each object in question just ends up going "through" the other. There isn't a hardness that allows the catapult to connect and pull the airplane, I don't know any other way to describe it.

If someone, anyone can prove me wrong I'll be very happy. But those are my thoughts on where the game engine is currently.

What about those folks working on arresting wires? Could this be done in reverse?

Pete,

If I can crash my plane(any sdoe plane) into a building on my airfield, isn't there any way to make a copy of that building say the size of a catapult block or brick, and put a moving dof to push the building and hence the plane. I really don't know much about all this. It is just a thought and you probably already tried this.

I tried something similar to that and the plane just ended up going through the wall I had made. It would sometimes catch on a part of it, but when the wall moved fast it'd go right through. I even tried a slow to fast acceleration and that didn't work either.

I hope someone out there can figure this out, it'd make the game WAY cool
