I have tried a little modelling using the free tools knocking around on the web. Had some success with models using an oldquake modeller, and the Hippie tools etc. ( MDL2FSD, FSD2LOD, LOD2 ) and then import the .OBJ file into Open Plane Studio. It works, but I can't seem to make a texture that survives the process!
Anyone done it this way? or do I have to save up the pennies and get a registered version of AC3D?

To get textures etc into OPS you need a .MTL file to be created with the .OBJ

Thanks Bryan. Went back to my original .MDL, re-mapped the texture their and found my .MTL file. Imported it again. Still no joy. Then I checked the texture properties and found the .TIF size was 0,0. Fixed this and it works. Thanks for the tip.
p.s. Open Plane Studio is a godsend, and it's free! Pity the Microsoft Combat Flight Sim crowd who pay £50+ to get modelling.

Now to finish that Defiant I started. Another sleeping place for lazy tailgunners....
