Ok here's another one.
It just lets the user know what's hot or where to go to get info. The list is just a text file that can be added to anytime and when the user connects it downloads the info into the tree there. Currently the list is on my site but I could make it point to multiple sites so we could have more lists etc.
I thought it might be handy to point the new guy to all the web pages and to the files as they grow.
When you select a node your web browser loads the page concerned or downloads the file if it's a file link etc.
It works fine as it is, just needs a pile of info or file links added to it.
Whaddya think? Should I continue with this?
cheers

I've Divided it into two nodes, one for files and one for webpages to make it neater.
All file links go directly to the file for download etc.
Another option could be a separate connect button for a skins only list or similar.

Looks like a great idea.
Will that mean all I have to do is have
one bookmark for all the good stuff.

It just means you run the util once in a while to see what/where all the stuff is and what's been added etc.
The files and webpages can be added weekly or daily to the list and it gets downloaded to the util whenever you run it.
Might not be for the daily Sdoe surfer but the new guy or 'been away a while' guy might find it helpful.
cheers

Could you have one that says "online standard and download these?"

It would make it more clearer for anyone.

Easy fixed, just an addition to the text file and there you have it Kop!
It could be a news announcement like "Patch out now!" hehe

I liked the star trek icons at first but maybe something to do with aircraft might be better. Anyone with some handy icons or feel like making one or two?

Spyder, I love your inovations, and addons!

This is great stuff! It will surely help the online standard problem.

Yeah, the Star Trek icons are o.k., but someone must have something more....WWIIish.

It looks good, it does. I have a couple of questions, but remember, I am very techno challenged!! ( It amazes me that you can keep coming up with these!! )

Does the utility come with the links? In other words, say I come across a new guy in the lobby; I refer him to your utility. He gets it, and clicks on the 5.3b patch, for instance. Will he go to it, or get a message that it has to be added first?

Sorry if it seems like a dumb question, but you've flown with/against me often enough to know how dumb I can be!!

Let's say there is an update to one of the items...like Openplane Editor, or one of the tutorials, or the Corsair Pak. How do I know that there is now a newer version than the one I downloaded using your utility a week ago? Could you put "last updated" dates next to each item?

I'm not sure what you would do with sites like FSHanger which adds content constantly.

The util will always get the latest news and info, if a new plane or pack is available I or someone else adds it to the list.
If the list hasn't been updated, usually you will find the latest update has replaced what was current and the user would see planepack5.4 where the 5.3 used to be anyhow.
If I decide to let the list go, I could easily change the util to point to another keeper of the list etc.
Neal, the util only connects you to download the latest links therefore by the time the user has grabbed the util, there would be a ton more links added, it's not like the util goes out of date or anything.
The list could contain anything such as news and events besides files/webpages.

Spanky here..

Spyder. I was wondering can't you just pack it in the SDOE control? We have all kinds of little SDOE apps I think its running around 5 or 6 now. Couldn't we roll all these apps into one?

also do you think you could make one and roll it into SDOE control that lets you set up your keyboard and joystick buttons without going in that crazy text file?

I could do that but you're assuming people want sdoe control, not everyone uses it or likes it. All my utils can be installed under one folder to keep them handy as with any util.
I understand trying to make a util multipurpose but it might make it even more confusing for the new guy as well, sdoe control is already chock a block with pages and options.
As in everything, this way the user can sift through the available apps and keep what's useful to them.
Point noted though, It may be something to add to chameleon or other app later too.

FREKIN GREAT IDEA!!!! I think this is EXACTLY what the community needs to keep ontop of all the new additions.

Maybe even have a section for all the aircraft available, so new people won't haveto search all around for them.
