ZooL - Please send those pics to my email (link above). Thanks!

Kopper - We could hear each other OK, what was the problem? I didn't think version would be a big deal if we could talk.

Dam Busters - Any suggestions anyone? So far here's my plan:

1. Cut wind down to 5Kt North
2. Change Lanc takeoff runway to same base, but longer
3. Inc. proportion of fighters
4. Cut one flak unit out over dam
5. Drop dam damage required to 10% (As far as I care, however, if the dam bursts allies win)

Whaddya think? I'm going to organize a RW-enabled Dam Busters night once the BCATP is back up. I think it was a lot of fun, and I can only imagine what it would be like with separate comms for allies and axis.

Feedback welcome!

Werner

What is the loadout for the Lancs, Werner? I don't know how accurate my version of it was when I did it back in one of the 2 prior Dover campaigns- but since we didn't have the bouncing bomb, I used the Tallboy-- makes for a fun missions with it all hinging on one bomb.

It's a fun mission Werner, I enjoyed them. The wind was a bit strong - I couldn't keep the lanc on one runway either time.

It felt good flying in close formation heading into the target. Too bad I didn't make it back either time. The flak was great but maybe a little heavy - maybe you can reduce the skill level to zero to reduce their accuracy. I like lots of flak but just when it can't hit me.

Unfortunately clouds and bombers still don't mix well for fps (lag was a bit of a problem last night). If you increase the number of planes you will want to disable clouds in the options menu. But it was cool lining up the target, passing over a cloud bank and suddenly losing sight of it - just before the release point.

I usually balance the fighters to the bombers: 3 bombers, 3 allied fighters, 3 german fighters. Or give the defending fighters a slight advantage. The 3 , 1 , 2 version worked well, we got to the target but only one of us made it home.

I've rebuilt the missions as follows:

Loadout changed from 14x1000lbs to 14x500lbs (I don't have the tallboy! )

Flak on coast was poor already, I left it as such (1 unit per town) flak over dam left as elite but cut down to 1 unit.

Wind changed from 10kts to 3kts

Proportions are: (b- bomber e- escort i- intercept, all grouped by flight)
3b 3b 3e 3i
3b 2b 3e 3i
2b 2b 3e 3i
2b 2b 2e 3i
2b 2b 2e 2i
3b 2e 2i
3b 1e 2i
3b 1e 1i + more flak

The idea is that the focus of the mission are the lancasters, and as the numbers get lower the proportion increases because you need at least two lancs over the target to split the flak and hit the dam. I cut the bombload down for weight, because as much as it felt amazing to see the lanc barely clear the fence at the end of the runway (After listening to Lanc veterans I'm told that was how it really was every time) it sucked for those who hit buildings or ran into their flight leader.... I'll give this round another go and polish some more.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Could it be possible to make a bouncing bomb. Yer all know that if you don't arm the bombs before dropping 'em, they will bounce around a little when they hit the ground, then blow up. Make it bounce in a certain direction and blow up after x seconds. Make a simple 'coat-hanger' sight for the lanc, and make them blow up if released from more than 130 ft, like they did in real life.

Thanks Nat, no worries. High flak volume would only cause lots of warp online, so I think what we have now is a nice balance.

semmern - That's a really cool idea. Just a thought: An entirely new lanc could be released (kinda like B17G/F) That would have a different bombsight and the modified 3D model to accomodate the bouncing bomb, and a few other mods that the Dam Busting Lancs had. Any takers?

I'm no expert, but couldn't something along the lines of an obDelay be used, have the bomb arm on release rather than arming it yourself, put in a delay on whatever.. 10 seconds say.. and with the right shape it should bounce along quiet nicely until it arms and hits the ground next time to explode.

Damn this is even something I could have a go at myself.. lol

why do I keep takin on new projets? I wish I knew what I was doing before I did.. LOL
