I find it fascinating to see how each modeler approaches the 3D design challenge of their particular aircraft. One quick way to see the basic 3D structure of an OpenPlane aircraft is to view the model in its wire-frame representation. This shows the outline of each polygon. It is also a quick way to see how many polys a model uses, and sometimes hints at how accurate the model is. The artist always tries to work the poly-count vs. detail tradeoff to obtain the best final outcome.

Below are all the contest WWI planes viewed in wire frame mode via OpenPlane Studio. Click on the aircraft name to see a much larger detailed image.

Now you see how important skins are!

I started this model using lots of polys to follow features. As I've gotten into it I find you can give the perception of a higher poly count model with a good skin. Each time I edit the model more and more poly's come out.

One thing that's very odd is that wireframe mode of OPS sometimes displays a model in triangles, eventhough it is contructed in quads. And sometimes, it reverts back to showing the wireframe in quads. Either way, the geometry is not changed, but it is curious. Perhaps Bryan could shed some light.
