In SDOE some planes handle better on the ground than others. I've made a lot of planes for CFS and the footprint applied is one of the main factors in ground handleing. Is it the same for SDOE, and if so can it be altered or exaggerated for better handling. I'm all for precise FM's but could the wheel seperation distance be cheated through editing the FM's for better landing and take-off control?

Which part of ground handling are you talking about? I think of "ground handling" as just taxiing around. It sounds like you're talking about the roll caused by torque on takeoff?

The latter falls out naturally from the position of the wheels and the flight model. Most of these WWII planes had big engines that generatted a huge amount of torque. You had to be very careful when taking them off. You have to apply throttle slowly, so that you get some airflow over the wings to have enough control force to counteract the torque.

For example, I recently read a pilot account of someone flying a Spitfire. He said that to keep it on the runway took full left aileron and full left rudder. That's just the way these things flew.

FWIW, Zur and I noticed that adding fuel tank objects and placing them in the historic spots helped lower the center of gravity and improved ground handling. This change isn't yet in the plane packs.

Can't wait tail. Although most of the time they are pretty good as long as you only use 1/2 throttle

Is there any kind of setting or value or something else openplaneish that deals with the coefficient of friction, or even the force of friction between the wheels and the ground? Especially for lateral movement? If so the applications for vehicles would be very impressive.

Thanks,

Werner

Was refering to handling during take-off and landing. Some of the planes just seem a bit squirrely to me. But Mighty, you're right, I've also read that the real planes were tricky to say the least. My father-in-law flew Mustangs in Korea and I recently let him try SDOE and he said that although the planes felt pretty good in flight, he said they felt "light" on the ground. He also said that SDOE was one "bad ass" flight sim. I agree.

That is controlled by somthing in the code I'm pretty sure. I also think it should be higher.

I'm pretty sure the coefficient of friction is based on the ground material. We noodled with that quite a bit the last few months. If you get it too high then the plane really bounces around and "catches and edge" very easily.

Its a fine delecate line eh mighty

maybe you guys should release a patch

HAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAH

ROFLAO

and in said patch you could adjust the friction of the ground. Everyone could set it how they like it and then we set it permanatly to a happy medium

Course everyone would bicker and complain that it wasn't the way they like it.

It would go on and on like that french province of ours trying to seperate.

there would be calls for revotes every 2 months and such.
