Thought Id answer some of the many questions been getting lately about the new guy.

Question: Are You?
Answer: Yes Im the same manock that has plagued Dawn of Aces, WarBirds Ladders, and Aces High. Thought of changing my handle, but with my personality, I would quickly be exposed so why bother.

Question: Manock, didn't you advocate stealing Aces High sounds, and plugging them into our sim?
Answer: Stealing is a despicable and deplorable act, and couldnt happen to a nicer bunch of fellows than those guys over in Aces High.

Question: Why did you curse this sim with your presence?
Answer: Fighter Squadron came with my Diamond Stealth S540 graphics card, and am impressed with the graphic detail of the planes. Decided even if this sim isnt perfect, its a good interim for the next generation of flight sims sporting 3DNow and SSI, and even more thorough campaign simulations which include groundwar interaction.

Question: You dont sound like us. How old are you anyway?
Answer: Old enough to know better than to ask how old people are so that puts me over age 25. But probably not much different than you. Some college, some drinking, some girls, some porno sites, some third person shooters, and uncontrollable trembling over an excellent flight sim.

Questions: Why dont you play the new Aces High 8 person miniserver sim, and leave us alone?
Answer: Tried to play Aces High in beta, but estimated one third of the flyers there use crack programs to enhance their planes. Ran across many a Corsair doing 600mph treetop level flight. Since Im also interested in historical accuracy, flying propeller planes disguised as F16s wasnt interesting for me.

Question: Sometime you seem just a little too good in air combat. Do you have a special gaming system, or do you enhance your planes with software cracking programs?
Answer: Thanks for the implied compliment but no I dont cheat. My computer is a maxed out Socket 7, and as I am interested in recreating the time period in which these planes flew, it would be self defeating to give them greater attributes than they really possessed. I do have a cable modem, and rudder pedals, and still looking for the perfect joystick. Taking back my Sidewinder force feedback tomorrow. Try Saitek next I guess.

Question: Doesnt that cable modem give you a huge advantage in online gaming?
Answer: Almost didnt answer this one since no one believes the answer but here goes. No not really. I went through the evolution from ISA modem, to PCI winmodem, to PCI hardware modem, to cable modem, and the best scores I ever got were with the pci winmodem. Go figure. Though I will say with the cable modem, no one ever tells me Im warping anymore, so I fly with that. But I understand your suspicions, human nature being what it is, I have always suspected the best online modems are external hardware modems connected through a serial port. A modem I have never tried, but have the sneaking suspicion would allow me to turn a lttle tighter on that spitfire that is always evading me. But probably really wouldnt.

Question: You sound like an arrogant self important pompous jerk. You will fit right in. Do you have any questions for us?
Answer: Great, yes I do. How do you translate coordinates from gameplay terrain to the coordinates in the mission editor, or is this a read the manual which I havent done yet question? See profile for energy level.

Question: You must be jacked to jump in on this online thing. Look forward to seeing you there.
Answer: Youd think so but taking a short hiatus to advance Corvus another level in Heretic II while waiting on my next joystick to show up. Juneau, Alaska is only accessible by boat, and plane so I do all my shopping online. See everyone in a week or so.

Does B17II support 3dNow or SSI? Is it available anywhere? The microprose site doesnt list it. There are times when I am so confused.

Welcome to our dark corner of the web, manock!

Hope you brought some drinking and some girls, cause this board could really use it!

I think you'll be "one of us" before too long, whether you like it or not!

B17II is not a real sim; it, like Duke Nukem Forever, will never be released. It is there to view screenshots and movies, revive interest in the original, and get us all to rush out and buy the latest hardware to not play it on. Once they feel this has been accomplished, Microprose will release PAWII which can be played on a machine running DOS 6.2, and 3D Realms will release for the PS 2 a shooter called The Evil Resident which will allow you, the player, to control the lives of one family who decides to rent out a room above the garage to a strange individual who wanders the city mumbling things like " Sue!! Sue!!" causing all the females in the city whose names even remotely resemble Susan to quickly apply for name changes.

Hope that helps answer your question, Manock. Er...BTW...what was the question?

Manock,

The coordinates in the sim are the same as the ones that appear in the editor. The 40 X 40 mile terrain is laid out in 4 quadrants (in terms of the coodinates) the centre of the map is 0,0 (x,y). The range is +/- 70,000 feet in either x or y. Sometimes if you are attempting to place an object close to another one it is easier to manually edit the mission's text file.
