DETAILS
FORMAT: 2v2 Team competition using Fighter Squadron: Screamin' Demons Over Europe missions created specifically for this tournament. Tentative date is April 8, 2000.

OVERVIEW
Teams of two will compete with other teams in the Fighter Squadron skies to demonstrate excellence in section-level air combat, and to just have fun!

TEAMS: Each team may will two players. No substitutions will be allowed after the tourney has begun. Squadrons can send more than one team if desired. Pilots may fly for one team only.

For the first event, the platform will be P-38J Lightnings for each team. Just to make it more challenging, HUD will not be enabled and an overcast sky is set.

EXECUTION
The tournament will consist of singular "events". Success in each event will depend not only on each pilot's individual talent, but also on the coordination of the team, and the ability of the team to fight as a unit.

This will be a double-elimination tournament. Lose two "events" and you're out of the competition. For the first round, we will attempt to avoid any same squad matches. If your plane stops on the ground, and you're not at your airfield, you're down. Down both opposing aircraft to win.

In later rounds, same squad versus same squad is a possibility.

You must have the mission pack.

SBM Tactics2 2v2 P38 [v3].MIS is the standard setup mission. Two P-38 fighters versus two P-38 fighters. Altitude at start is 15,000 feet. The sections start with approximately 10 miles between them.

In the event that all or some aircraft run out of ammunition without resolving the conflict 1v1 and 2v1 missions are included in the mission pack.

WHAT'S AT STAKE?
Nothing. If you win, you'll receive an all expenses paid trip to the Fighter Squadron Information Center where you can brag to your heart's content.

REGISTRATION
After you have assembled your team, a captain should be designated. The team captain will be the sole liaison between the team and the tournament staff, both in tournament preparation and in coordination on the day of the tournament. It's the team captain's responsibility to register his team.

In order to determine a reasonable format for team elimination and advancement, we need to have an idea of the turnout. Please post your intention of participating on the message board.

The final announcement and list of competing teams will be posted.

Addendum:

Double-elimination... lose two matches and you're
out. I'll do my best to make sure that there are
no squad vs. squad matches in the first round.
After that, who knows...

Primary Round: 2v2, the default setup. If your
plane stops on the ground, and you're not at your
airfield, you're down. Down both opposing aircraft
to win. I think the game will state which team
wins. This match will continue as long as there
are flyable planes with ammunition.

If ALL of the surviving aircraft run out of
ammunition. It's a draw. Coordinate the
disengagement and land. (Yes, you must land.)
After landing restart the mission again using the
appropriate ALTERNATE scenario.

Alternate Rounds: 1v1, 2v1. Continue the fight
with the surviving players. Rinse, lather, repeat
(if necessary).

I realize that a single match rather than a best
of X, two outta three type contest may seem a bit
more brutal than what you have flown in other
competitions. Work through it and keep in mind
that no one probably ever faced Hartmann,
Moulders, or Bong more than once. Sustained
superior performance is the key. If the set up is
too short to allow you get your formation set
before facing the enemy, please say so now, and we
can modify the mission for a larger separation.
