Topic: PPF file Util for the inept

Here's one I whipped up this morning. You drag and drop a ppf or text file that contains the appropriate aircraft airfoil string and you click the button to insert the line into the startup.ppf file. What is required is for the designers to include a file of any name that contains their airfoil/sm string as the only line, so there's no more worrying if a startup.ppf is going to overwrite or muck up your current config. In this example I loaded the startup.ppf, then I just made a text file called hurri.txt and added the needed line to it and dropped it over the image there. Next step was to select Insert and Save. All done, no need to fear installing new planes and overwriting the startup.ppf. So in essence, there simply needs to be a one or two line (or whatever the plane requires) txt file included with any new planes rather than a complete startup.ppf file. Everyone happy with that idea? cheers

Oh yeah, and the Load button will probably be removed and have the util auto load it, one step less. I could also make the insert save as well but this way you can actually edit the ppf file manually if you just want to do it all by hand or change something.

Ok added a few touches and tried it numerous times, works fine. All we need now is to change the ppfs that are added to the new plane zips so they work with the util and it should prove less of a worry adding new planes. Zoy has it in his clutches for testing, I hate seeing him doing nothing. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Spyder, how about calling it the "SDOE Property File Manager" I could create some new art for yea to use instead of the spits. Might look better with custom art. What size is that image? ------------------ Tony "Razer" Martin http://www.fshangar.com [This message has been edited by Razer (edited 04-07-2000).] IP: Logged |

What's wrong with me spits? waaaah! If you view this page in 800 x 600 then you should be seeing the image and everything else in actual size. Ok Razer, let's see what ya got for the gfx dept, thanks for the name suggestion by the way, sounds better. I'll change that too.------------------ IP: Logged |

The image is actually way larger than what it shows, I had to resize it to fit on the image control. Try this: right click on the piccie up there and Save Picture As... Then you will see the util and image size in your current res, that's fine, place your image over it to fit.Or... about a thumb by a thumb square.... Anyhow if that's no good I'll send you the util so you can see for yourself. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Yeah!! The Spit stays!!er...Right, Spyder?? Huh? PuhhhhhLEASE?? Oh...and it looks useful, BTW. Say...you couldn't maybe whip up a little something to hack passworded por....er.....'special' sites, could ya?? I don't know how ya keep doing these, but I am glad ya do. Now, hopefully, there will be something to explain how to use it for me - as opposed to those who can figure this out for themselves ( everyone else!! hehe ). ------------------ nealg=FC=

Psi, well it's ready now but until someone includes the txt file as I mentioned then it's useless. What we need to know is, will this become a standard? I'll leave it to the plane designers to decide.

Hey Spidey, Thats a great idea there! Any chance we can lose the Spit and replace it with a Mustang?

It's done, I retained the spitfire image in the help section. The util now lets you load any file such as keyboard.inp or txt file etc.

Hey no pics of any WWI crates? What gives .Again this is another great little bit of SpyderWare. The text file will be easy to add to any future planes and even some of the current zips available. The DVII will be updated to work with this. I think this should aid those new to FS. Well done Spyder.

Thanks Zoy. Just to recap, the plane zips only need one txt or ppf file in them that contains their startup.ppf file line rather than the whole startup.ppf file which is currently overwriting the user's startup.ppf. This way both the maker and user have a much simpler process when new planes are released. eg. Zoy adds this to his DvII zip: "aircraft/airfoils/DVII.sm"and Bryan adds this to his Hurricane zip: "aircraft/airfoils/CLARKYH.ppf" and so on...... for all the current and future planes. At the moment the whole startup.ppf file has been included with the planes, meaning the user has to overwrite his startup.ppf file in order to fly it. This has meant depending on the order they were created, some startup.ppfs do not contain a previous plane type and the user gets a crash or something. I think you get the idea. ------------------ IP: Logged |
