I need a list of tifs by name that are required for user created skins for the recent plane explosion. ie the 4 tifs: Fw190A8.tif Fw190A82.tif spinner.tif germspin.tif germspin4.tif, are all that is required to repaint the A8, but not the pile of tifs that went into making the plane as these shouldn't need to be painted right? If you are the owner/designer of a plane since the 5.3 planepack could you write these down here or email me the list please? If I've left a plane out that wasn't a contest plane but needs to be added, let me know also. Chameleon update in progress.

I'll do this for all the planes I have worked on ie:Fw190A-3 Fw190A-8 Fw190D-9 Bf109E-4 Bf109F-4 Bf109G-6 Bf109K-4 Mitsubishi A2M5 Zero Sen If you haven't heard from me in the next couple of days, drop me a mail to remind me.

Bummer Sv, only problem in chameleon is that each theatre holds the tifs as a pool so the same part names will cause me a problem. That would mean having to have separate folders for the Se5, DvIII and AlbDva to keep them apart. As soon as you copy/unpack each plane type tif into chameleon, the last zip would be the only one that would get copied if they are the same name. That could mean an Se5a skin trying to fit onto a Albatross or something if you see what I mean. Sniff! :~( hell, gotta rethink this.------------------ IP: Logged |

Sounds like we may need some sort of naming convention: SE5_wings.tif etc. etc.It probably is a good idea to have the theatre directories have individual folders for each aircraft type, but your the Code Meister Spyder, you'll figure something out. The Corsair skins all use two files:f4u11.tif f4u12.tif The files are different for each plane tho. Is this a problem, having different .tifs with the same name? It wouldn't be difficult to set the planes up to use different named .tifs. Just let me know what convention is required... ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

Ok the hurricane and f4u etc are fine, but the way chameleon is setup I would need to rewrite it all to work with separate folders for each plane. To be honest it would make things messy as well having theatres full of all the aircraft folders. I can either, add the same name tif aircraft to separate folders leaving the rest as standard or leave them out altogether, a rewrite would be a pain right now. Unless there's a better way of implementing it, I'll sleep on it for a few days and see what I can come up with. cheers

Seems like the guys building multi-varients of planes (Corsair, Mustang, Spit, 190, 109) should probably try to standardize a bit if we can to fit in with the add-ons. It's a pretty simple matter to rename the main .tif files and rebuild the .sm file to include them. What works better? Having a "master" skin folder containing ALL the skins for ALL the F4Us, say, and letting them be accessed by ANY F4U, or having separate skins for each F4U which can only be applied to that particular version? I can set the Hogs up either way, just let me know which works better for the next updated versions. ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

The 109 and 190s all use differently mapped textures (some are only slight differences others are major). Therefore a skin designed for a Emil will not display correctly on an Kurfurst. Quite apart from this the paint schemes in use during 1940 are totally inappropriate for use on a plane flying in 1945. Where appropriate the aircraft sm files have been optimised to share textures but this does not extend to paint schemes for the above reasons. ------------------ Yardstick painted this

The 190's are fine except they use a common pair of tifs, the germspin.tif and germspin4.tif. Other than that they have their own Fw190A8.tif or Fw190A3.tif textures which is great for chameleon. So if a camo zip has the germspin tifs they will replace any previous 190 props when the get placed into chameleon's theatre pool. no biggie but it would be better to have all the planes display their proper scheme to the fullest. If GC 3 does this better then I needn't worry about it, I don't know if Chameleon gets used much anyhow so I may be fretting over nothing.------------------ IP: Logged |

I use Chameleon mainly because I am a dunce at getting GC to work-- I have had plenty of messages trying to help me (including the creator himself-- thanks!)-- but I can never seem to implement the tips to get it working--I just get the screen and have no idea what to do with it. If I had more time- I could probably figure it out- but Chameleon is easy to use and I at least appreciate the fact that you are planning an update...if I'm the only one though-- I understand you not wanting to do all that work and I guess I'll just have to take some time (of which I have nil until after June-- I get about an hour a day to check the Forum, make missions- and *gasp* maybe even fly once or twice- and that's it!!) to learn how to use GC. So-- if you still have the inclinatin Spyder- I will be the first to download.------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless!

Ok, here's what's added so far:Hurricane ( simplistic! ta Bryan) Fokker DvII (quite a few! But worth it ) Albatross Dv ( umm ummm!) Bf109E4 ( the previous on in chameleon was for the non flying one) Fw190A8 ( Is the A3 the same but with the A3 name? I don't have a zip of one) Not added: P47 ( same name problem with the wings.tif) DVIII ( same) SE5a (same) I need info on the 109F and K series, again no zip to go on. The 190D is another. Also I don't have any info on the Yak or P80, will the owners please stand up, thanks. What else is there?

The yak just uses one texture file for the exterior. I think it's yak3256.tif but I don't have SDOE on this PC. TS

Are there any skin collections I can download for chameleon? I spent an hour downloading and browsing and almost had a desert scheme together but not sure where I put it. TS IP: Logged |

Thanks tail, so Yak3256.tif goes into aircraft\yak3\textures ? I don't have all the contest planes as yet. I just download 4 or 5 of each plane type from the hangar and add them, though maybe a bigger collection would be better and easier to use in chameleon's case. Maybe the painters could make up some folders in a zip file with some collections?

That sounds great for now Spyder! If you are still doing it this way by May 1st, I can easily update my skin file names when the WWI Planepack comes out -Sv IP: Logged |

That would be great Sv! If all the plane makers could use different part names (for the user skins not the fiddly bits) that would be real handy. I chose your Albatross out of the bunch so we have two great German planes to start with for now. I wanted Chameleon to be fast and easy to use so adding separate folders for all aircraft then adding them all would make it no quicker than adding the skins directly into FS by hand. It works well apart from the naming conventions. cheers
